Chapter Seven

Selena opened her eyes and found herself in a dark room. Memories from her last conscious moment slowly drifted back to her mind, causing her to sit up sharply. Tears flowed down her cheeks as she walked away from the bed she woke up on, feeling her surroundings for anything solid to grasp. She couldn't believe Alex was gone, and in such a despicable way. It just wasn't fair. She thought about all the times I teased him. The jokes were funny then, but she felt different now.
Selena's grief shook her core for a couple of minutes, as she wandered around the dark and lonely room. Her rationality kicked in soon after, reminding her of the inconsistencies in her reality.
"Where am I?"
The last thing she remembered was screaming in terror as she stared at Alex's lifeless body on her bed. How she moved from her dorm to this dark room remained a mystery. She had no clue where to begin with deciphering the technicalities of the movement to her current location.
Her outstretched hand finally hit something solid and she quickly realized what it was. A wall. She felt her pockets for her cellphone to provide some light in the darkness, but it wasn't there. She remembered slipping the device into her backpack at the library and cursed under her breadth. Selena re-calibrated her thoughts to the next rational course of action which was to feel the walls for a light switch. She proceeded with that task as her tears slowed down with the distraction.
Selena felt frustrated and helpless. She didn't know whether to call out for help or remain silent. Who would keep her in a dark room all by herself after what happened to Alex?
"Have I been kidnapped?"
Selena remembered the fast-moving shadow she thought she saw at the library and wondered if it was actually someone stalking her. She immediately went into panic as fear formed a slow-moving stream under her skin.
"Don't scream. Keep it together." I placed her hands over her mouth and mentally consoled herself.
