Selena was relieved to see herself back in the safety of reality. At least, the hospital room was safe and away from the terrifying man in her dreams. She knew she couldn't keep going in and out of that dream. It would make her lose her mind - if that hadn't happened already.
Selena turned her head in the direction of the chair her mum sat the last time she was awake, but she wasn't there. Instead, a man she didn't recognize sat in her place. Selena sat up immediately, her eyes widening from fear.
"Please don't be scared." The man addressed her, placing his hand in front of him in a reassuring gesture.
she saw his badge and relaxed a little. she still wasn't a hundred percent comfortable with his presence, especially after the terrifying dream she just had.
"I'm detective Howard. It's okay, you're safe now." He said.
"Where's my mum?" She asked, still looking at him skeptically.
"She went home for a change of clothes. She'll be back shortly." He replied.
Selena couldn't believe her mum left her alone after what happened with Alex. What if the people who killed him were out to get her too?
A doctor walked into her hospital room and checked a few of the readings on the surrounding monitors. He turned to her and smiled.
"How are you feeling now, Miss. Ryder?"
"Okay, I guess."
Selena found the question ridiculous. She wasn't okay. How could she be? She had just lost her roommate in the most horrific way, and she was going in and out of terrifying dreams. Who would be okay in that situation?
"This is detective Howard. He's here to ask you a few questions about what happened." The doctor continued.
Selena blinked, saying nothing.
"Detective, she's been traumatized and is still fragile. Try not to push too hard." The doctor said, before walking out of the room.
"Doctor..." she called out after him. "Can you stay here, please?"
Selena didn't want to be alone with the detective. she didn't know if she could completely trust him.
"Sure." He smiled and took a seat in the far corner of the room.
"Miss. Ryder, I know you've been through a lot lately, but I need you to tell me anything you remember about what happened. It'll be really helpful in tracking down the person who did this." Detective Howard said, pulling a chair close to her bed.
Selena didn't want to recount the incident, but the detective was right. Any information she could give to help track Alex's attacker would be helpful. Besides, she wouldn't be completely at peace knowing whoever killed Alex was still out there and could possibly come for her too.
"I came back to the dorm and found him on my bed." Selena stated, tears choking her words as they made their way out of her mouth.
"Was he already dead?" Detective Howard asked.
"Yes. I screamed, and that's the last thing I remember. I woke up here. I'm sorry I don't have any more information."
"It's okay. You've been really helpful, and I appreciate it. I don't intend to get you any more upset, but I need to know everything." The detective assured her, handing her a tissue.
