“Are you trying to get yourself killed?” Braxton spoke through his teeth. He was definitely not happy about Nria speaking with Maddox. “He saved me”, Nria explained. “Besides, it’s not like I was telling him any secrets”. Braxton had one hand on her elbow still leading her down the halls towards her room. “I don’t want you talking to him”, he said as they came up to her door and he turned the handle. “Brax,” Nria started. “Don’t call me that, only friends call me that”, he cut her off before she could finish. He let go of her arm and motioned for her to go inside. “I’m sorry. We used to be friends didn’t we?” she replied walking through the doorway. “Maybe we could start over?” she asked as she turned around to him. “ We can’t undo what’s been done. You should have never been mixed up in our lives to begin with”, he slammed the door closed.
Nria never meant to bring this heartache to him. Veric won’t even speak to Braxton since he found out that he bonded with Nria. Veric had wanted Braxton to choose between Nria and him. As if that’s even possible, Braxton can’t help but to choose her now, even if he doesn’t want to. It wasn’t fair to Braxton to even suggest it. There has been any kind of knowledge to break the bond either, it was for life. An eternal linking of souls. Maybe one day Nria could earn back the friendship they once had, she thought as she finally slipped into bed, and tried to get some rest.
The next day Nria decided that she needed to know about Maddox to find out how much she could really trust him. She slipped on a clean pair of pants, a light blue shirt, and her boots. She braided her long brown hair to one side, and headed out the door to the main hall.
When she arrived she found Maddox sitting at a table speaking with some of the older men that were in charge. She recognized a few of them like Captain Krado. Looks like they finally removed his ropes and a new fresh change of clothes. “Well then who were these men if they were not Rebels?” Krado asked, looking at Maddox. “Just some thugs," Maddox answered. “And why would someone like yourself be involved with these Thugs as you called them?” Maddox sighed, “ Let’s just say that it was a wrong place, wrong time kinda situation.” “That’s not good enough, boy,” Krado said firmly. Maddox just stared at him like he was refusing to say more.
Nria walked over, thinking that she should intervene before this went the wrong way.”Captain Krados, good morning” Nria said, stepping into his view. “Nria, good morning, we were just having a chat with your new friend here.” Krados explained. Nria looked over at Maddox, his eyes seemed to soften when he looked at her. “Isn’t he just the best? you know saving me and all”, she turned back to Krados with a huge smile on her face. Krados huffed. “Hmm well it would be better if we knew what his true intentions were. “How about this,” Nria started tapping her fingers on the table. “I’ll take responsibility for him for now, and I’ll report back to you anything I learn about our new friend.” She felt like an i***t with the huge fake smile but she wanted the Captain to trust her. Besides, it's not like she couldn’t handle herself here in the school. Maddox shouldn’t be dumb enough to try something here in front of everyone. “Another man leaned over to Krado’s ear and whispered something into it. Nira wasn’t sure what his name was though, she hadn't seen him around too often. “Fine,” Krado finally said. “Take him along to your classes, but please stay in the main rooms,” he said as he stood up and went to walk away. Nria nodded still with that stupid smile. “And I’ll make sure Braxton tags along,” Krado finished as he walked off. Damn it Nira thought as her smile instantly went sour.
Nira turned to Maddox, “ Have you had anything to eat?” she asked. “Yes, and you didn’t have to do that for me,” he replied. I did if I didn't want them killing you right here, she thought to herself. Braxton walked in and headed straight for her. “I thought I told you to leave him alone?” his nostrils flared. He was practically in Nria’s face.”Hey man, back off, she was just trying to…” Braxton swung around with a finger in Maddox’s face. “I wasn’t speaking to you was I?” Nria moved in between them and held her hands up. She was so small compared to these two. “Look, we just all need to get along ok? Braxton everything will be fine. You don’t have to stay if you don’t wish. We can manage without you, if…” “The hell you can, you can't even manage not to get taken on a job YOU wasn’t even supposed on.” he yelled. well Damn Nira hoped that wasn’t gonna get brought up.She eyed Braxton in the eyes, “please don’t do this here,” she begged. Braxton relaxed slightly and after a moment or two he said, “I hope you know what you’re doing, and you,” he looked over to Maddox,”I’m not taking my eyes off of you.” “Well then time to head out” Nira said while walking off. Maddox watched her for a moment wondering if he should but finally got up and followed her out. Braxton trailing far behind.
