A Note from the Author

776 Words
Greetings! I wanted to apologize for leaving my readers hanging. Life decided to take a very bumpy dirt road instead of the normal highway. I didn't have directions so have been driving by the seat of my pants. I am currently going through one of those messy bits in life. Divorce sucks and well I am in the thick of it still. I have a ways to go before it gets settled but once I am able I will be getting back to these stories and their endings. I have other stories in my head awaiting release. It will be dependent on how this divorce plays out and how long it takes before I can get back to writing. In the meantime I wanted to remind you all that I started a P.a.t.r.e.o.n account where I have hidden books and extra chapters to the stories here plus recipes from the stories in this series. If you want to look me up on that account it is still M. Merrill. Here is a taste of one of the hidden books on there. It is called Tied Souls: Abe's POV The ringing of my cell phone awoke me. "Hello," came my hoarse voice out of sleep. I heard nothing for about 30 seconds before I could pick up the faint sounds of crying. I pulled the phone away from my ear and looked at who it could be. The name my heart always quickened for, Fig Newton. The one girl who held my heart so tightly that I would do anything for no matter what. "Fig. What's wrong?" I placed the cell back to my ear. I didn't give a damn what time it was now. "H-he H-he," I could hear her voice crack. "He's gone." I could hear and feel her pain. She was the one girl I wanted but could not have. How I wish I were the one to run into her and not my friend of many years. In my book, he never treated her like she should have been treated. "Travis left again?" I knew his old pattern. She would catch him cheating, and he would run off for a few days to a month so he could "teach her a lesson." "N-no," my little Fig hiccuped. "The, the lift f-fell on him." Another burst of tears followed. I damn near dropped the phone. Was Travis dead? "Fig? Did he die?" No idea why I had to ask, but I did. Another round of tears that sounded like flood gates opened. That told me everything. "I will be there soon, Fig," I answered. I left the phone on speaker as I leaped up, grabbing whatever clothes were handy and a bag to throw them in. She was three states away from me. So, it would be at least a 20-hour drive. Didn't matter. My Fig needed me. The phone went dead sometime between packing and throwing it in my truck. I left messages with my ex-wife about the kid's schedule and my parents. All I said was I had an emergency that needed my attention. None of them knew (I am sure they had a clue) about my feelings for Fig. Hell, even though I took over a year to sort out my emotions about her. ******* Macie's POV ******* Travis never knew about Abe and me talking. I had always kept a small pay-as-you-go phone with his number hidden in the barn. Abe had given it to me when he had been to the ranch and seen Travis beat me into a bloody pulp. Abe had pulled him off and knocked him out. He even left him tied to a post while he carried me inside to clean me up. He called the doctor and ensured that Travis understood why he was not fond of women being abused. I was beaten worse after he left, just because someone had cared enough to stand up for me. Abe was the first I called when I heard from the shop owner what happened. I dropped the small cell phone in my lap and let my emotions take over me. I cried until I could cry no longer. I didn't understand why I was crying that he was gone. I was oddly happy inside too. I drifted off to sleep, thinking that Abe would be here soon. ****This is just a sneak peek at this story on P.a.t.r.e.o.n at my M. Merrill account.******* I will be deleting this author note once I get back to writing and updating. Much thanks to all my wonderful readers and comments! You guys are amazing. Thank you, M. Merrill
