Pregnant

Celeste’s “Yes, Luna, pregnancy. You are two months pregnant.” “Luna?” The doctor calls, pulling me out of my daze. My eyes widen as I stare at her in shock, unable to believe the words I am hearing. I’m pregnant? With Lucian’s child? I’m pregnant! I’m really pregnant. Tears well up in my eyes as I look at the doctor, grabbing her hands. “Are you sure? Am I really pregnant?” She nods with certainty, and I inhale sharply, standing up and dashing out, despite the doctor yelling for me to stop. I can’t stop—not when I know Lucian won’t reject me anymore. When he knows I’m pregnant with his child, the one thing he’s always wanted from me, he won’t reject me. My heart hammers in my chest as I enter the house, running straight for his study. I’m about to enter when Elijah stops me. “Can I see him?” I ask, my smile wide despite my heavy breathing. “It’s important. I really need to see him.” “I’m sorry, Alpha Lucian is with Liora right now, and he said he doesn’t want to be disturbed.” My heart aches and I bite my lower lip, hearing he’s with Liora, but I shake my head as my eyes narrow with determination. “Elijah, tell him that I have to see him because…” I pause, hesitant, then continue, “Because I’m pregnant. I’m pregnant, Elijah.” Elijah is shocked, and I catch a brief flash of emotion I don’t understand, but it’s gone before I can blink. “I’ll tell him,” he says, then goes into the study. Moments later, he returns, and my eyes brighten when I see him. “Alpha Lucian said you should meet him by 11 p.m. at the courtyard. He’ll grant you an audience at that time.” My shoulders sag in disappointment. He doesn’t want to see me now? Isn’t this important enough? Still, I remind myself that I’ll see him later, and I can tell him then. He’ll be happy when he hears it directly from me. “Okay, thank you, Elijah.” I smile before walking to my room, holding on to the hope that this will work out. Lucian won’t reject me and this child will build our relationship. Five hours later, when it’s 11 p.m., I pick up the pregnancy report from the bed before leaving the room. I had gone to the doctor to take another test just in case the last one was a mistake—and it wasn’t. The second report confirms I’m pregnant. A smile plays on my lips as I walk to the courtyard. It’s quiet, and I’m alone. I take a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves, wondering why Lucian would want to meet here of all places. Suddenly, snap! The sound of a branch breaking behind me startles me. Just as I’m about to turn around, eager to see that Lucian has really come, a handkerchief is pressed over my nose and mouth. My eyes widen in surprise. I try to scream and fight back, but as the world around me fades, I hear a male voice before everything goes black. “Make sure you get the job done without leaving a trace. I groan softly as my eyes flutter open, and my vision gradually sharpens. A dull ache pulses at the back of my head, and my limbs feel heavy. As the disorientation clears, I hear muffled voices nearby, their tones low and menacing. “Don’t you think we should at least have a little taste before we end her, boss?” “Of course. Why do you think she’s still alive?” Laughter echoes through the silent, dark forest, and panic surges through me. My heart races as the grim reality of my situation sinks in. I feel the rough ropes biting into my wrists and ankles. I’m tied up. Where am I? Who are these people? Suddenly, memories from earlier rush through my head, causing a splitting headache. I remember preparing to tell Lucian the news when someone grabbed me from behind, pressing something over my mouth and nose. And the voice—was it Lucian's? I take a deep breath, my pulse racing. As I scan my surroundings, I spot three men seated around a campfire, their backs to me. Rogues. I try to think fast. I have to escape. Silently, I attempt to move my tied hands, looking for something sharp on the floor to cut the rope. They’re not paying attention, so I manage to find a sharp rock. Using it, I begin to cut the rope slowly to avoid drawing attention. The rogues are talking and drinking, so I know they’ll be distracted for a while. The stone digs into my hands, causing blood to flow, but I keep cutting. Finally, my hands are free. I begin to cut the ropes around my feet, and just as I hear footsteps drawing near, I manage to free my feet. Without looking back, I run as fast as I can. I don’t know where I am, but I know what will happen if they catch me. One of the rogues shifts into a wolf and leaps in front of me, baring his sharp fangs. I turn to run in the opposite direction, but the other two, still in their human forms, block my escape, trapping me. “What do you want from me?” I scream, retreating in fear. The two rogues laugh, and the leader reaches out to grab me. I cry out and struggle to break free, but he’s too strong. “Someone wants you gone. You shouldn’t have made that person angry,” the rogue snarls before throwing me roughly to the ground. I cry out in pain, the thought of Lucian flashing through my mind. Is it him? Does he want me dead? The rogue steps closer, and I crawl backward, panic overwhelming me. I know what’s coming, but I can’t stop it. Before he can reach me, I watch in shock as his head is ripped clean off his neck. Blood splatters across my face, and before the second rogue can react, he meets the same grisly fate. A young man steps into view, and as he approaches, my body shakes with terror. I scramble back, my voice breaking as I beg, “Please! Don’t kill me, please! I’m begging you!” “What did I tell you, Sliver?” An elderly man suddenly appears, holding the severed head of the wolf who had shifted earlier. “Be careful with how you fight. Look, you’ve scared the young lady.” Sliver looks pointedly at the wolf’s head in the old man’s hand. “Oh,” the man realizes, tossing the head aside and turning to me with a serious expression. “State your business. You are on the boundaries of Bloodstone Pack.”
