Anise woke, excitement crackling on her skin. Today was the day she would get her wolf. She jumped up, pulling on her clothes to go for an early morning run as she usually did. There was no need to change her routine to just wait around for her first shift. Her pack was one of the largest in the world, and they had a lot of land to accommodate that. She usually ran through the town center and to the main pack house for breakfast, making the 5 mile run worth it to see her father, already at work doing his Beta duties. Something made her decide to run a different way today, taking to the woods to do free running instead of the well paved paths of roads. It wasn't unusual for her to free run, though she usually made sure to go with friends as that was more fun. She ran to a large lake that was within their territory and stopped to rest. Sitting on the edge of the water, she tried to meditate for a bit but suddenly felt a burning on her skin, like she was about to catch fire. She decided that she would take a swim and stood to take her clothes off. Nudity within the clan wasn't abnormal, so she wasn't worried about being seen. As soon as her clothes were off, she doubled over in pain. Scared, she began searching for her phone when a voice made her stop. Anise, it's ok. Don't fight it, give in to the pain, and it will be over faster. She wasn't sure what was happening and the pain was spreading from her abdomen outward. The burning turned to an itching sensation and she watched as white fur sprouted along her skin. Lost to the wonder she was caught off guard and screamed as her bones broke and shifted, some elongating some moving completely. Her muscles changing shape fur covering her body. As quickly as it began it was over and she stood on the grass panting. She felt different, powerful, like everything had been blurry and was now in sharp focus. She heard a chuckle in her mind and was startled for a moment. "Who are you? Are you my wolf?" Yes, Anise, I am. My name is Amara. I have been here all along but am glad we have gotten to finally meet. Do you want to see what we look like? "Yes!" Anise padded forward to the edge of the water and gazed at her reflection. She could tell she was a large wolf, probably due to her being of Beta blood. She had all white fur, black nose and claws and sharp white teeth. Most striking of all though were her eyes, ice blue just like her human eyes. "Woah." she thought. Woah indeed, Amara replied sounding amused. "Amara, why are our eyes like that? Usually a wolf will have brown eyes, regardless of what their human eyes are?" Because we are special little one, there is a prophecy but that is all I can tell you for now, just know we will be important some day. We will have to work hard and fight for our place like everyone else, but our future is bright. Now let's go show ourselves to the pack. Smiling inwardly Anise grabbed her clothes and phone off the ground in her mouth and trotted off toward the main pack house for breakfast. The years flew by and Anise trained and before she knew it was a warrior leader and a ranked member of the pack. She had moved into he main pack house with the other single ranked members and hoped to find her mate some day. Anise had tried to talk about their mate with Amara a few times through the years but Amara didn't let her in on any knowledge about it. Anise not only was a ranked member but spend a lot of time with the Luna of the pack. The Luna had friends of her own but liked Anise and took her under he wing, showing her different duties that she preformed as Luna and teaching Anise diplomacy and opening doors that would be used in the future, even if Anise didn't know it. When the Alpha and Luna welcomed their first 3 pups, twin boys and a girl, Anise immediately became their honorary protector. In her free time she would babysit them and teach them how the pack worked. Teaching them to respect everyone, even if they were the lowest ranked members of the pack. Not everyone respected the Omega's and Anise was determined that the pups that were next in line would, since without Omegas the pack would not run nearly as smoothly as it does. The Alpha and Luna agreed and were actively trying to make sure the few that had no respect were dealt with swiftly to make a point that everyone in the pack were important, no matter their rank. When the pups were about 5 years old the Alpha and Luna wanted to go to the lake and spend some time as a family, of course with the increased threat of rogues in the area they took a small contingent of warriors and Anise. Anise was lounging against a tree when Amara went on high alert. To not worry the Alpha and Luna she got to her feel slowly but linked the other warriors to be on guard. The hairs along Anises arms stood on end and she linked the Alpha dn Luna to get the children and head to the boat ramp, NOW as she shifted mid run towards them. A small group of about 10 rogues burst through the trees and made a line straight for the Alpha and Luna. They picked up their children and ran for the dock as it was the most defensible position. Once there the Alpha shifted and placed himself in front of his family about midway down the ramp. Anise was the farthes from the rogues but was faster than the other warriors. She took out two rogues, snapping their necks before the group stopped and turned on her and the other warriors. The lead rogue snarled and the other rogues got between him and the pack warriors so he could continue on towards the Alpha and his family. Anise quickly linked the other members and vaulted over the line of rogues taking off after their leader. She quickly overtook him and grabbed his tail in her teeth digging her paws into the soft ground. She linked the Alpha noticing him start her direction and told him to protect the Luna and kids as he was the last line of defense and we didn't know if there were more. He nodded but stood bristling. The lead rogue turned on Anise his jaws snapping on air as she quickly doged. She circled him easily placing herself between him and the Alpha. She played offense for a bit, tiring her opponent and judging his prowess. He was a good fighter and she and Amara could tell he was holding back. Most of the other rogues were being taken care of or subdued and the rogue knew he was running out of time. He lunged, Anise danced aside and suddenly pain seared her cheek and shoulder. She yelped in pain and spun on her attacker, he smirked and held up a paw, showing his claws...silver claws. The skin on her face and shoulder burned and sizzled. She grimaced in pain but knew she couldn't let him get to the pups. He lunged again and she backed away. She stumbled a bit from the pain in her shoukder and the rogue took the opportunity to run at her and bowl her over. She landed on her belly and she howled in pain as silver claws raked along her back. The rogue grabbed her by the back of the neck and began to shake her, trying to break her neck. She went limp and acted dead, even holding her breath. The rogue dropped her and began stalking towards the Alpha. Anise struggled to her feet and in one last burst of energy jumped on the rogue, flipping him over and ripping out his throat, ending his miserable life. Panting over his body she knew that the others had dealt with the remaining rogues and the Alpha, Luna and pups were safe. She looked at the Alpha, now shifted back into human form and saw he was saying something, but could no longer hear. The burning from the silver was overwhelming and her ears began ringing. The last thing she saw was the Alpha, Luna and pups running towards her before everything went black.
