“You—I mean, we almost did,” said Zahi. “We slept round the clock. But listen! Don’t you want to know how Vivek’s doing?”
“You’ll tell me even if I don’t ask,” grinned Rahul. “So tell, or you’ll burst!”
“He looks more peaceful, somehow,” said Zahi. “I don’t know how to explain it, but more relaxed, as though he’s not suffering—”
“That sounds as though he’s worse!” remarked Rahul. “We don’t want him looking more peaceful, we want him looking less peaceful, because that means he’s returning to consciousness. People are always more irritable when they’re becoming conscious of the world around them. Why do babies cry when they’re born? If they don’t, that’s bad. Complaining is the conscious thing to do!”
“Let’s go and check the morning reports,” said Zahi. “That should settle it.”
