“Let go of her, Doran!” Esmeralda softly ordered the king, but he gripped my arm tighter, and I cried in pain.
“She was just about to agree to be my wife,” His voice shuddered in the throne room, and he turned his attention to me. “Weren’t you?”
I couldn’t look at him. All I could think about was Theodore. What was I going to do to keep him safe?!
“She clearly doesn’t want to marry you, Doran! Let go of her!” Esmeralda’s voice was filled with more authority and I felt his grip soften slightly, but he didn’t let me go. “Skye!” Esmeralda screamed at me and I focussed on her.
