"You need to get out. Come on, let's go to the club... you are never going to meet your mate sitting here in your office!" Crispen, my beta, said from behind me.
"I don't need a mate" I stated, rolling my eyes at Crispen.
"Haven't we already had this conversation?" I asked, lifting brow at him.
"Yes you do" he says, exasperated.
"The pack needs a Luna... but aside from that, did you ever stop to think I might want a mate?" Crispen states.
"And you think your going to find her at the club...?" I asked, amused now.
"I have a better chance of finding her there than sitting here in your office staring at you" he says with a smirk.
"Why are you sitting in my office staring at me? Don't you have duties to attend to or do I need to give you more?" I asked, rolling my eyes while my back was turned.
"I'm in here to try and talk you into going out... didn't I already say that?" Crispen says with a smile on his face.
"Just because you are my beta doesn't mean you can speak to me with disrespect." I said, reminding him of his place.
"No it doesn't, but being your best friend does give me the right to speak freely, though I didn't mean any disrespect" he says, leaning against the door jam.
"Alpha, we have a problem here", one of the guards patrolling the border mind links me.
" What is it" I asked, straightening up in my chair.
"There is a girl here claiming to be the youngest daughter of Alpha John of the Full Moon Pack."
the guard said nervously.
"What does she want?" I asked, now wondering what the guard was nervous about.
"She asks to speak to you. She refuses to tell me why, but Alpha, she is terrified and looks like she ran all the way here from the Full Moon Pack."
"Bring her here" I stated, cutting off the mind link and turning to Crispen.
"It seems we have a guest."
"who is it?" Crispen asks, straightening off the door jam.
"She claims to be the youngest daughter of Alpha John of the Full Moon Pack"
"Claims to be?" he asks, raising an eyebrow.
" She came running up to the border terrified and asking to speak to me" I answered.
"Would you like me to give you two some privacy?" He asks, moving to leave.
"No, you may stay" I said, motioning him to the couch against the wall of my office.
After a few minutes of waiting, we heard the guard enter the pack with the girl. Stepping inside, the guard nods to me and turns to leave. Behind him a short girl stands looking at the floor wringing her hands together. She was slight in build and dressed in a long t-shirt the guard must have given her when she shifted back. Her green eyes were bloodshot and puffy from crying and there were streaks of dirt covering her from head to toe. With dark brown hair curling in wild disarray around her face, she looked just as the guard had said.. terrified.
As she stepped inside, I saw Crispen straighten up on the sofa from the corner of my eye and before I could speak, he stood and walked towards her as if in a daze. Stopping directly in front of her, he reaches out and, putting a finger under her chin, lifts her face so their eyes meet.
"Mate" he says and pulls her into his arms.
After a moment, I cleared my throat to get their attention. With a smirk, I said "Crispen, while I am happy for you both, I think there is a pressing matter your mate wishes to speak to me about."
My voice seemed to snap the girl out of the trance Crispen seemed to have put her in and she turned to me franticly.
"Please, you have to help! My pack was attacked by rouges. They came out of the wood and were in the pack house before we knew what was happening." she says, her words tripping over themselves in her rush to get them out.
"Slow down sweetheart, take a deep breath", Crispen said, leading her to the couch.
"Now let's start with your name" he says with a soothing voice.
"T-Tory" she says while more tears stream down her face, leaving brown streaks on her cheeks where the tears mix with the dirt covering her face.
"Tory, why don't you start at the beginning and tell us what happened?" I asked, keeping my voice calm and soothing so as not to frighten her any more than she already was.
"I was in my sister Morgan's room talking when my mother came running in telling us about the rouges. She pushed us to the window and told us to run. That there were too many to fight off and that we had to go now. She then left to join the fight. I jumped out the window first but my sister was attacked before she could get out." she said in a shaky voice, her eyes glazed over and not really looking at anything.
"It's OK Tory", Crispen said, holding her hand, rubbing small circles on the back of it. " Just tell us what you remember."
"She managed to get out the window but the rouge had slashed her side and she was bleeding badly. she grabbed my hand and we ran. After a while, she stopped us and made me climb a tree. She made me promise to come here, then she left, drawing the rouges with her." Tory's eyes filled with tears again "I didn't want to leave her but she made me." I could hear her fighting them but I promised her I would go for help so I ran." "please help her!" She said desperately looking at me.
"We will do what we can for your pack, but you must realize that if this happened last night your sister probably didn't survive." I said regretfully.
Shaking her head, she said " You don't know my sister. She's the strongest fighter in our pack. She finished advanced training when she was just fifteen and my father sent her to train with the Dark Moon Pack. She finished and exceeded their training by the time she was eighteen. Morgan is a force to be reckoned with. I guarantee she took down half of them before they managed to capture her."
The Dark Moon Pack? They were the strongest pack out there, and not known to be friendly. How did Alpha John convince them to train his daughter? "How are you so sure they didn't kill her instead of capturing her?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Because they stopped beneath the tree I was in and shifted, trying to figure out why the sent changed. They were speaking and they said their leader ordered the Alpha decedents to be kept alive." She said with anger now leaking into her voice. Straightening up on the couch, she lifted her chin and looked in my eyes with all the regal barring of a queen and asked me "Will you help my pack? Will you save my sister?"
I looked in her eyes and stood giving my answer.
"Yes"
