Chapter 3 - Destined Mate

1044 Words
Dorothy's eyes were closed, and she had lost all consciousness. Only the slight ups and downs in her chest proved that she was still breathing and alive. Edward quickly brought Dorothy back to the Kalmar pack. The moment he entered the pack, he returned to his human form. He carried Dorothy straight back to Bearston Castle in his arms. "Quick, call Dr. Raymond!" As soon as he walked into the door, he loudly barked out his order to Butler Jerry. He made a straight path for the bedroom. Edward carefully set Dorothy on the bed. Doctor Raymond arrived soon after, for he was already present in the castle. He opened the door and asked in an anxious voice, "Edward Alpha, are you hurt?" Dr. Raymond was an old man, his gray beard almost curled up at the sight of Edward covered from head to toe in blood, and he quickly pressed his hands against the wounds to try and stop the bleeding. After that, he nervously took out his medicine box and stepped forward, trying to help Edward with his injuries. Seeing this, Edward pushed him in the direction of the bedside and said, "You should treat her first." Only then could Dr. Raymond make out a person lying on the bed. If Edward happened to be stained with blood, this woman was more like a blood bath. Even the quilt on the bed was stained by her gushing wounds. Dr. Raymond reached out with his old hand and stroked the bedsheets. The white-golden sheets were already soaked with blood. "What's the matter?" Edward asked nervously when the doctors saw his solemn expression. "This is a custom-made bedsheet by Charlotte Thomas, with Andrew's gold and the best merino wool added to it, but it was ruined, alas... such a pity... ah!" Dr. Raymond was letting out a long sigh at this time. Suddenly, he felt a fierce kick from Edward. He fell directly under the bed, leaving only his butt sticking out. He made a strange noise as if he was having difficulty coming out. "You’ll cure her, or else!” Edward replied venomously. In the next second, Dr. Raymond was sitting upright by the bed and looking down at Dorothy again. His attentive look might actually have fooled some that he was serious about the patient, not the sort of doctor who would actually think of turning away a wounded victim. Dr. Raymond glanced down at the woman sleeping on the bed. He knew her, this woman was a human and a hunter. He glanced over at Alpha Edward standing next to him and shook his head. The master liked a hunter, and he had no idea if this was a good or bad thing. He did his best to check out her wounds. His brows grew closer and closer together, and then he let out a long sigh and said, "Edward Alpha, I hate to break it to you, but she’s dying." Her heart was damaged and she had just lost too much blood. She also had symptoms of a nervous breakdown. Each of these things alone could kill her, but combined, they were a lethal force. What the hell happened to this girl to destroy her body like this? With a bang, Edward’s fist went into the wall. The result was a gaping hole on the surface of the wall. His hands were gushing blood, but he seemed unaware of the pain. He angrily clutched Raymond's collar and roared loudly, "How could she be on death’s door? Check again, no matter what the cost, I want her to live!" Raymond said in a helpless voice, "Even if you kill me, I can't save a person with a huge hole in their heart. She’s human rather than a werewolf, and she doesn’t have the self-healing ability of a were." Edward's hand dropped weakly to his side. He bowed his head down and said, "Leave immediately." "Let me check the injury on your back first." Werewolves’ self-healing abilities were very strong, especially alphas’, however, the weapons of hunters were developed for werewolves, so they would hinder the self-healing properties of werewolves. He knew that medicine smeared on their weapons could even corrode the wound further. "Go away at once!" Edward burst out yelling. Raymond was knocked to the floor by the force of his yelling. Alpha Edward's violence made him unable to even lift his head, so he could only crawl out of the room on all fours. He slumped at the doorway, turned his eyes up at the housekeeper, and said with a harsh smile, "Jerry, the master's feelings for that huntress appear to be out of control. It's deeper than we originally thought." Jerry's face grew even worse. He happened to know more than Raymond. He said, "She’s the master's destined mate." His words made Raymond stand up in utter shock. He asked in a trembling voice, "What did you just say?" "I said, she’s the master's destined partner!" Jerry repeated his words again, giving Raymond a very serious look. Raymond turned around and wanted to open the door but discovered that it was now locked. He could only slap the door with his hands and shout from outside, "Master, Master, you mustn’t do this! Even though you’re already marked the designated partner, the other party can gain the healing powers of a were. But this woman happens to be a hunter. If she wakes up and refuses to accept you, you’ll be in danger!" "Master, Master, open the door!" Raymond was still shouting loudly through the closed door. "You just reminded the master," Jerry said in a leisurely fashion. Raymond's body froze in mid-action, and he stiffly turned to look back at Jerry behind him. After that, he asked, "Is it possible that the master had an inkling about this before?" Jerry still shook his head with a grim expression on his face. "It's over, it's all over. If the woman wakes up and rejects the master to his face, the master will..." The wolf of the were that was rejected by the destined partner would be injured or even cease to exist. Once the were's wolf was injured or killed, it meant that the werewolf lost all its power.
