The instant he turned around completely, Dorothy's eyes went back to their normal color.
She took a quick step back and got into her fighting stance. Her right hand habitually curled up to grab the Bowie knife but realizing that it was still gone, quickly formed her hands into fists, staring intently at the black wolf.
Suddenly, her abdomen became red hot and the strong tingling sensation made her stumble around all of a sudden, nearly knocking her off her feet. She leaned down on one knee and supported her body with the palm of her hand. Sweat kept on rolling down his cheeks without stopping.
The black wolf sensed her discomfort. With anxiety-filled eyes, he ran straight to her.
Dorothy's heart pounded in her chest as she struggled to stand up despite the pain. She gasped for breath and stared at the running black figure, preparing to dodge out of the way at any given moment.
The black wolf slowed down and stopped quietly one step away from her. Her tense nerves were stretched to the limit. The stinging pain in her chest suddenly intensified and she knelt on the ground and was unable to get up. Her hands and feet were both immobilized from the pain.
The black wolf did not wait around any longer. He came up to her and stuck out his tongue to lick the sweat off Dorothy's face. After noticing the alertness in her eyes, he slowly withdrew his tongue.
He lay beside Dorothy, allowing her to lean her head gently on his soft belly, without making a sound.
Dorothy lay rigidly, feeling the rhythm of his belly behind her head, rising and falling with every breath. As the Hunter Queen, she knew all about werewolves. She could tell right away that the wolf bore no malice toward her.
Why was he here - why did he help her out just now?
She suddenly felt a slightly itchy sensation at her collarbone and glanced down to see a strange flower growing on her white skin. The flower was the exact same one that had been on her destroyed pendant.
Was the pendant space still around?
She hurried to call out to the pendant space in her heart but got no response at all.
Looking down at the pattern on her collarbone with disappointment in her eyes, she gradually felt that the strangeness in her body had completely dissipated. Her hands and feet were no longer bound by pain and she quickly jumped away from the huge black wolf. When she turned her head around, she could make out a gentle light in the black wolf's eyes.
They made eye contact again. Dorothy felt a sense of familiarity coming from the depths of his wolf soul. She was about to find out the source of the familiarity, but she suddenly caught sight of the scars on the black wolf’s back.
The black wolf followed Dorothy's searching eyes and realized what she was looking at. His anxious eyes immediately turned cold. He got up slowly from the ground.
The dark space was as still and silent as a tomb.
Dorothy remained vigilant toward the wolf before her. At the same time, there was no one around and after walking for such a long time, she could not find any clues to go about her investigation. This wolf might, indeed, be the clue.
Besides, it looked like he had no ill will toward her.
"Are you hurt?" Dorothy opened her mouth to break the long silence. She thought the wolf somehow looked wounded. Whether it was an emotional wound or a physical one, she had no idea. She had been fighting with wolves all year round but could not guess what was behind this black wolf’s mental or bodily wound. She furrowed her brows and stared at the black wolf's fur, trying to see if she could find any evidence there.
At the moment, she had not been attacked in this place, but this did not mean that it was particularly safe here. Usually, a dark place would have many hidden dangers in it and a head-on blow could occur at any time at all. She had to be prepared for any possibility.
The sadness emanating from the black wolf became more and more intense. He was silent for a moment and then said expressionlessly, "This is the fate of the wolf who was rejected by his destined partner and his body will weaken until his wolf dies."
Dorothy's pupils dilated sharply, thinking about whether his words held any truth in them or not. The hair on the black wolf's body was dull and on the skin hidden by his sparse fur, the scars that were still wet with blood scabs were shocking to see.
The black wolf shot her a cold look, then turned his huge body around to check out their surroundings.
Dorothy watched his figure without saying a word. Her mind was spinning crazily fast. A wolf rejected by his destined partner would disappear…
She lifted her head suddenly. That could only mean that since Edward had been rejected by her, his wolf would cease to exist too?!
She took a step back in utter disbelief. The face that had remained calm even in the face of hundreds of hunters attacking loosened in appearance. Her fists grew tighter and tighter and she was so caught up in her emotions that she did not realize that her fingernails were sinking into her skin. A familiar sorrow rose from the bottom of her heart again.
The ridiculous thing was that it was she who originally wanted to save Edward from becoming a part of this disgusting conspiracy. Unexpectedly, it was she who had given him this fatal blow.
If she knew about this before… If she had any clue about the consequences…
Anger flashed through her eyes. The dark space around her made her feel breathless and she wanted to get out of there immediately. Feeling panicked, she looked around for a way out.
"Do you have any idea how to get out of here?" Dorothy tried to find the answer from the black wolf. After seeing him shaking his head slowly, her hands weakly fell to her sides, feeling despair overcome her.
The black wolf's ears suddenly stood up on his head and his dark red pupils continued to shrink. He vaguely heard a muffled sound coming from the ground, and then bowed his head down slightly to investigate the situation further.
Dorothy also noticed the change in atmosphere. She saw a c***k appear on the ground and as the sound became louder, the c***k slowly opened.
"Run." The black wolf leaped to his feet. Before he had any time to pick her up and escape, the cracks in the ground immediately widened, swallowing the two of them instantly.
