he cleared his stance

For a few seconds, Skye found herself running again in that forest through the storm to save herself, but the next second…. Everything went silent. All she heard was a steady and strong heartbeat. A gentle push on her back, and everything around her faded. What was this feeling? She had never felt this safe all her life. Arthur was holding her tightly, and the vibration that reached her chest through his chest when he growled only made her lean more on him. She didn’t know if Arthur’s concern was just for the show, or if he was genuinely worried about her. She just wanted to reel at this moment, and carved it in her memories so that she could say that once, he also held her protectively. “You let those rogues enter the pack, Hunter?” Ashton asked in a thunderous roar. Everyone trembled in fear, especially Hunter. Skye peeked in their direction a little and suddenly a cruel idea crept into her mind. No one was paying attention to her, and her whole body was almost covered with Arthur’s long robe. So, if she does something to Hunter, no one will notice. “I…. I am sorry, Grandpa. I know I was wrong,” Hunter pleaded with Ashton. The pain was unbearable to him. He was also trained with the warriors, but Stella spoiled him too much. “And what about her serving you and your friends? Is she a maid here?” Ashton asked angrily. Everyone in the room gasped in shock, especially Stella and Nolan. “Skye is the only girl who is still alive. I don’t care if she is mute or an omega. You pranked with her all the time and I never interfered because they were harmless. But you crossed the line that you must not, given the fact that you are the future alpha of your pack.” Ashton roared, his nails digging deep inside his palm. Nolan pursed his lips into a thin line. As an alpha himself, he understood every word and the consequences of Hunter’s action. For the first time, he had no words to defend his son. Stella held Hunter tightly, but Hunter couldn’t stop whimpering and moaning in pain. No one noticed that his small bruises had turned into wounds. They started bleeding at one point, but they were still negligible and covered with large wounds around them. But Arthur noticed. He narrowed his eyes when he saw a bruise on Hunter’s neck turned into a small wound. At the same time, he felt a subtle shift in Skye's body. That was almost negligible, as if she adjusted her body a little, but the timings were too perfect to be a coincidence. For Arthur, there is no word like coincidence in his vocabulary. He lowered his eyelashes a little, not lowered enough to say that he was looking at Skye. She was wearing a thin silk black gown. Her hand was out as he had clutched his shirt. The corner of his lips curled up in amusement when he saw two bruises on her forearm healed. “He…. He learned his lesson, dad. Please spare him. I …. I want to take him back,” Stella pleaded to her father, fully understanding the situation now. Still, she blamed Skye for everything. Hunter only asked her to serve. What was the big deal about that? Arthur looked at her and understood her inner thoughts. Hunter wasn’t his problem. It’s his parents who kept Hunter here and spoiled him too much. He had no intention of watching this drama anymore. “I don’t care how you spoiled your son, Stella, but from now on, if he wants to come back here, he must learn to behave. Skye is my future Luna. Insult her, insult me, and you know me very well.” Both Stella and Nolan sucked in breath. Nolan was displeased by Arthur’s words because he had some other plans in his mind. Arthur was called a curse alpha because of the death of five mates. Skye was sixth, and she was supposed to be dead by now. Somehow, she survived. But she was a mute omega, not a fit for the Luna of the Frostebite Pack. Arthur slowly stood with Skye in his embrace. Skye hurriedly wrapped her hands around his neck in fear. He gently cradled her in his embrace and glanced at his father over his shoulder. “I am sure that I am clear enough on Skye’s status in the pack, Dad. As per our agreement, she is the last girl whom I agreed to mate. I will hold my mating ceremony on the full moon night after Skye’s 22nd birthday. Whether she lives or dies before or after that, I will not take any other girl or woman again.” Arthur spoke to his father in a cold tone. Everyone held their breaths in shock and disbelief. Especially Hunter and Nolan. “Whoever dares to even think about touching her, he or she will face my wrath.” Arthur threw the last statement indifferently and walked towards his chamber again. Ashton grimaced, glaring at Arthur’s departing back, but there was nothing that he could do in this matter. When they learned that Skye’s father, Winfred Ashford, changed the bride from Gloria to Skye on the engagement day, the whole pack was so enraged that they thought about attacking Skye’s pack, but Arthur agreed to engage with Skye suddenly. When he was asked, he said that no one knew for how long she would live, and as she was mute, it was convenient for her to concentrate on the pack’s business instead of listening to her nagging all day. They believed, and Arthur got engaged to Skye that same night. After that, he forced Skye to shift to his mansion instead of going back to her father’s pack. Reason – as the future Luna, she needed to learn ropes before their mating ceremony. So, Skye stayed in Frostebite Mansion. Ashton sighed in resignation and looked back at his daughter and her family. “You take him back to your pack, Stella, but you seriously need to concentrate on his education. In a few months, he will take over the pack. Pulling a few pranks is another thing, but being a bully is another.” Ashton lectured his daughter with a grim expression on his face, clearly disappointed with Hunter’s action. Stella lowered her head in embarrassment. “I understand, Dad. I will pay attention,” Stella replied in a low voice, but deep in her heart, she cursed Skye for everything. Nolan took a deep breath and asked two of his warriors to come inside and take Hunter with them. Arthur took Skye back to his chamber and put her in bed. He was as gentle as he could be with his movements. Still, Skye winced in pain when his back touched the mattress. “Bear it for now.” Arthur muttered and slowly pulled the sheet onto her body, scanning her whole body secretly. “Mora. You should have seen Hunter. Goddess! That was a sight to enjoy.” Skye giggled in her heart while talking to sleeping Mora. “You seemed to be in a good mood, huh?” Arthur asked her while sitting beside her on the bed. Skye held her breath in fear and looked at him while blinking innocently. Fenrir sneered while watching Skye acting cute and adorable. “This time, it’s my fault to neglect household affairs. From now on, if you face any trouble or anyone tries to create any trouble for you, you will directly approach me.” Arthur spoke to her in a calm but serious tone. Skye blinked a few times again and then gestured “HOW” through her hands. Arthur knitted his brows when he realized his fault. Skye can’t speak, and he never tried to find a way to communicate with her. He sighed, looking at him with a troubled gaze. Skye felt a pang of pain in her chest and looked away.
