Skye’s P.O.V. (Continued)
I stiffened when I realized that Colton would tend to my wounds in William’s presence. Even if I am an unworthy mute burden, I didn’t want to be exposed in front of them….. males…
“Please, don’t be scared, Luna. I am just assessing your injuries…. My female assistants will tend to your wounds and will touch you.” Colton assured me with a faint smile, sending my discomfort, I guess.
I smiled weakly and gave him a helpless gaze.
He also looked at me sympathetically and smiled in assurance that he would not let anyone hurt me more.
True to his words, two female assistants came inside the room with more medical supplies.
Colton immediately explained to them what they needed to do and warned them so many times to be careful with my wounds.
He was the first person who was this attentive towards my injuries.
Doctors….
“Move now.” Colton urged William, and they both walked farther away. One of those nurses, one with a very gentle smile and beautiful face, dropped the mosquito curtain, giving me a cover from everyone’s eyes.
“I patched her up three days ago, William…… three days ago…… now you told me that she had been thrown to the wall… Seriously?” Colton’s voice was sharp, edged with anger that he didn’t bother to hide.
“Almost all her wounds have opened again. She is already weak, and now she has lost blood again. I ….. I really don’t understand why you guys are so careless about her security. Does she really not matter to him?” he questioned angrily, but this question cut me deeper.
I also wanted to know if I matter to anyone in the world?
“Hey, I am going to clean your wounds with this, okay? It will sting a bit, but bear it. It’s important,” the nurse, Wilma, spoke to me in a gentle voice.
She was really beautiful.
I just nodded in agreement, and she slowly dabbed the cotton dipped in an antiseptic on my cheeks. I was hissing in pain, and she immediately looked at me sympathetically.
“I told you to be careful,” Colton yelled from a distance.
Wilma pursed her lips in embarrassment, but I looked at her apologetically.
I smiled in assurance, mouthed “IT'S OKAY” to her.
She raised her brows in surprise but nodded with a wide smile.
I knew that she could read lips because her eyes were darting towards my lips so many times while she tried to talk to me.
“That’s good. At least we have a way to communicate with you,” the second nurse, Rosa, spoke in a hushed voice, but she was smiling genuinely.
She was tending to my wounds on my legs.
They were so gentle and slow in their movements on my body that I didn’t feel any pain.
“I am going to flip your body, Luna, so that I can see your wounds on your back,” Rosa told me with a concerned look. Meanwhile, Wilma finished tending to my cheeks and my head.
“Let me help you,” Wilma said to Rosa and they both moved my body to one side as gently as possible for them.
I still winced in pain, but I smiled weakly in the end.
“This is strange,” Wilma mumbled, and my heart skipped a beat.
I need to call Dr. Colton, Luna. He needs to see this,” Wilma informed me worriedly.
I nodded, giving her permission to call the doctor.
“Dr. Colton,” Wilma called him immediately, but didn’t move her hands from my body.
“What is it?” Colton asked hurriedly.
“You need to see this,” she told him, and looked back at me.
Rosa had covered my body as much as possible for them, leaving some dignity to me, but Colton was a doctor, and I shouldn’t be ashamed in front of him, right?
Colton came forward and followed Wilma’s gaze and hovered over my body.
“This is strange,” he mumbled, furrowing his brows, and then looked at me with a complicated gaze.
I raised my brows questioningly.
“Your wounds….. they are almost healed.” He mumbled, and I furrowed my brows in confusion.
“It…. It’s not a bad thing. In fact, it’s a good thing, Luna.” He comforted me anxiously.
“Change her dressings and then change her clothes. She is still not in a state to eat by herself. So, help her with dinner and then give her medicine,” he instructed them, still sounding troubled and in a daze.
I took a deep breath and decided not to dwell on it.
It seemed that while inflicting pain on Winona, I accidentally used her healing abilities too.
Arthur’s P.O.V.
“How is your fiancée?” Mom asked me in a casual tone after finishing her breakfast.
I dabbed my mouth with a tissue and put it on my empty plate.
“She is healing better,” I replied to her nonchalantly, and slowly stood up.
“Arthur,” she called me hurriedly. Dad was sitting beside her, but he didn’t pay attention to us.
“I really didn’t know, son. I thought that the kitchen head had been taking better care of her. Mom still said the same thing that she had been repeating for the past three days.
After my first mate’s death, Mom took over the Luna position again, and after my engagement, I trusted her with Skye’s care.
When I told her about what the kitchen served her for dinner that night, she argued with me and blamed Skye for creating a rift between us.
She shut her mouth when William brought that bowl that Winona served to Skye.
Since that night, I haven’t felt like talking to her, and I had so many things to take care of, including the kidnapping case where the second party was still in hiding somewhere.
“I know,” I replied in the same way, and started walking towards the exit.
“For how long will you not speak to me?” she yelled behind me. I stopped and looked at her over my shoulder. I had no expression on my face.
“I don’t blame you, Mom. This was my negligence,” I replied to her calmly, taking all the blame on myself.
“It… it’s not like that, Arthur. As the Luna of the pack, I should have noticed the negligence and abuse,” she still argued, but I was not in the mood to argue with him.
“It’s good that you know,” I still replied briefly, giving her the face as she was still the Luna of the pack.
I walked out of the dining room and went towards the bedroom.
Ever since the day I found out what the kitchen had been feeding Skye all these months, I have always checked her meals randomly so that the staff couldn’t mistreat her.
I walked inside the room and saw her sitting on the bed with a bowl of soup in her hands.
A maid was standing at a distance from the bed.
She flinched in fear and immediately bowed in front of me in submission.
“Alpha.”
“Is she done with cleaning?” I asked her, and she immediately bobbed her head furiously.
Skye also stopped drinking her soup, her eyes cast low, and she was biting her lower lip lightly.
I noticed that she also flinched slightly when I entered the room, and now, she was holding the bowl tightly.
She was still scared of me.
I sighed in my heart, not knowing what to do that could make her communicate with me and stop fearing me.
“Leave,” I instructed the maid who was standing frozen in her place.
She immediately bowed in front of me one more time and almost ran out of the room.
I noticed a very subtle change in her breathing, not uneven, but there was a subtle change when I asked the maid to leave the room.
The maid closed the door after exiting the room.
The silence in the room was enough for me to hear her breathing.
She was now more scared than earlier.
I walked to the bed without shifting my gaze from her.
She hadn't moved a muscle till now, still holding the bowl tightly as if her life were dependent on that.
I notice slight redness at the corners of her eyes.
My jaw clenched when I realized that she had cried earlier.
