Prologue

She was tiny. Much smaller than all the babies ever born into the Shadow Walkers pack ever. The parents looked at the triplets that lay in the incubator together and couldn't help to worry about their little girl. Compared to her brothers she looked extremely small and way more fragile. The new mother let out a sniffle as she looked at her babies. "Do you think she'll make it," she asked her mate as she took in the oxygen tube that was inserted in baby girl's nostril. The newborn had to be intubated right after birth since her tiny lungs struggled to draw in oxygen. "She'll make it. Her brothers will insure that. She stabilized once they were put next to her," her mate ensured as he pulled her close and kissed the top of her curly wild hair. The woman believed him. Their little princess had to make it, had to pull through. She was given to them for a reason for it wasn't common for changeling wolves to give birth to multiples let alone triplets. When the couple found out they were pregnant after just 7 years of being mated they were ecstatic. They had been waiting to start their own family, but with her being a pack doctor and him being a gamma they rarely had time to settle down into a groove to add children to the mix. But that didn't stop them from trying after they both decided to have kids. Once they found out they were expecting she had quickly made an appointment with one if her fellow doctors and confirmed the pregnancy and the OBGYN let her know that they were expecting twins. It wasn't until she was actually giving birth that they realized it was triplets. Everyone from the parents to the hospital staff were shocked that after the twin boys were born that she immediately start to give birth to a third baby. It was then that they found the baby girl and how weak she was. According to the OBGYN the girl was hiding behind her brothers because of her size and that they never detected her heartbeat because all three of them were in sync. No one expected her to live after she was born. Her health started to deteriorate rapidly and she only stabilized once they found she and the boys settled when they were close and touching. The doctor suspected that it was their biofeedback as not only packmates, but as triplets that tethered the girl to the land of the living. Once everyone saw that the baby was gaining strength and was able to breathe steadily with the aid of oxygen did they all relax some, but not all the way. All was waiting with bated breath on what was going to happen to the Runt of their pack. As the thought of their children finally being here and the surprise of their little girl the couple couples' heart swelled with love. They both continued to look on at their precious bundles and silently prayed that what he said was true. That their little girl would make it and be okay.
