Betrayal Shadows

One of the guys surged at Leonard before he could respond. Jenny started with fear as Leonard battled off the intruder. She wanted to help, but anxiety planted her right there. Victor grabbed Jenny amid the tumult, dragging her close and slinging a knife to her throat. He sniped, "Give me the keycard, or she dies." Leonard's eyes flicked with fear and rage. "Let her go, Victor." This comes between you and me. Jenny gasped in agony as Victor held the knife nearer her flesh. "Now, the keycard is important!" Leonard threw the keycard to Victor without any alternative. Take it, then leave her alone. Pushing Jenny aside, Victor caught the keycard. "Pleasure conducting business with Leonard here. We will get back to you. Jenny sank into Leonard's arms, crying with both relief and terror as Victor and his men ran. Leonard hugged her close; his own body shook with adrenaline. "We're done, Jenny. Right now, you're safe," he said, caressing her hair. Jenny couldn't let go, though, even as they clung to one another—that this was only the beginning. Her past had returned to haunt her, and she knew their problems were not far gone. Leonard's steady breathing next to Jenny roused her up. Her memory played back the events of last night like a persistent dream. She had been rocked by Victor's threats, the fight, and the keycard. Still, a fresh will descended over her as the dawn light crept into the chamber. She had to defend Leonard and their delicate love at all the expenses. Leonard departed breakfast for a meeting with his security team to go over the break-in. Seeking to stop this dream, Jenny chose to face Victor. She hurriedly changed, left the house, and headed for the old warehouse by the docks in search of him. Ahead the warehouse loomed, its shadow menacingly spreading over the earth. As Jenny neared, her heart hammered. Inside, the air was tense and somewhat salted from the surrounding ocean. She noticed Victor seated in the middle of the room sporting a haughtiness. "I see you decided to come alone," Victor replied, his voice resonating in the void. "Why are you doing this??" Jenny insisted, her voice firm under pressure. "What do you want from me?” The smile of Victor became wider. Actually, it's rather straightforward. I'm seeking control. And I can now enter Leonard's secret vault with that keycard. Jenny felt her tummy turn over. "What's inside the vault?" Victor moved nearer, his eyes shining with hate. "Input. Secrets capable of ruining him and everyone connected to him. Involving you. A noise behind Jenny turned her before she could answer. Two guys came out of the darkness to obstruct her leaving path. She realized she was imprisoned and went into panic. Leonard was nervous back at the house. Jenny had not seen him since breakfast, and her phone was headed straight for voicemail. His gut feeling sensed a problem. Hoping he wouldn't be too late, he hurriedly assembled a small crew and headed to the docks. Jenny was absolutely desperate in the warehouse. She had to figure out how Victor could carry out his scheme. She grabbed fast and recalled a little knife she had stashed in her boot. She started down slowly, praying Victor wouldn't see. "You'll never get away with this, Victor," she murmured, attempting to gain time. Leonard will learn and stop you. Victor laughed at a cold, merciless sound. Oh, I am depending on it. He will be more readily manipulated the more desperate he gets. Jenny grabbed the knife from her boot quickly, lunged at Victor. She succeeded to slit his arm, so surprisingly the aspect worked to her advantage. Victor let Jenny have a fleeting second to flee while howling in agony. She turned to leave, but the two males blocked her way. Jenny battled with every last bit of power as they closed in. Seeking release, she kicked and sliced. The sound of sirens permeated the air just as she felt all hope had faded. Leonard had shown up with reinforcements. The guys hesitated; Jenny seized the chance to get by them. She sprinted toward Leonard, who had just entered the warehouse with his crew. She approached his side and felt relief wash over her. "Jenny, are you fine?" Leonard questioned, worriedly staring at something. Breathless, she said, "I am now." Victor, however, possesses the keycard. He wants to use it to get into your vault. Leonard's tone darkened. We had to stop him. Right now. Leonard's mind spun as they headed back to the house. Sensitive material in the vault may compromise not only his company but possibly the life of many people he loved. He would not let Victor have his hands on it. Leonard rapidly accessed his security system back at the house and started altering the codes. Although he understood it was only a band-aid fix, it would provide some time. Turning to Jenny, Leonard stated, "We have to find out what Victor wants with that knowledge." And why is he focusing on you? Jenny inhaled deeply and started to go over her background. Her errors, her transgressions of others, and the secrets she had kept stashed for so long. Leonard listened carefully, his look a mix of worry and resolve. "Whatever it is, we will face it together," he declared with conviction. But we have to have a strategy. That evening, seated in Leonard's study, a fresh concept started to develop. To catch Victor off guard, they had to entice him outdoors. Knowing it was dangerous yet important, Jenny advised using herself as bait. Leonard wasn't sure. "I object to you once more being in danger." Jenny looked into his eyes and took his hand. "We are not in a position with options. He will destroy all we have created if we do nothing to stop him. Leonard reluctantly nodded. Over the next few hours, they developed a strategy ensuring every element was considered. Their camaraderie strengthened as they worked; their common struggle drew them closer. Jenny stood at the same warehouse the next evening, heart thumping. She had scheduled a meeting with Victor under pretenses of having a fresh offer for him. Hidden close by, Leonard and his group were poised to attack.
