Chapter 2: The weakest commissioner (1)

1067 Words
"Hey, Nathan! Boss is looking for you!" "Yes, I'll just finish putting these boxes." "Oh, come on. We'll do that. Just go to the boss. He seemed to have an important job for you." Nathaniel, also known as Nathan, narrowed his eyes slightly at the attitude of the team leader of the people in the warehouse. 'What's up with him? Why is he being nice all of a sudden?' Nathaniel thought, but soon shook the thought off. 'Well, people can change.' Nathaniel went to the outside of the warehouse where their boss usually waits if he wanted to meet someone from the warehouse. He doesn't have an office in the warehouse, because why would he need an office in a mere warehouse when he has an office in the skyscraper he owns? Mr. Lowell was waiting for Nathaniel outside the warehouse. In his hands were a document and a pen. Nathaniel greeted him with a bow. "You're here. Then, I will go straight to the point. Do you want to become a commissioner?" Nathaniel raised his body and stared at Mr. Lowell with his usual stoic eyes. He thought that Mr. Lowell had finally gone mad from following the boss around like the dog's tail. 'Why the hell would he ask if I want to be a commissioner? With this body of mine then that would be a distant dream.' Nathaniel thought. "Why are you asking me? What if I wanted to but my body wouldn't let me to be one?" Nathaniel asked. "As you may have known, commissioners in this era have millions of dollars as their salaries. Considering your situation... don't you think it will be best if you become a commissioner?" Mr. Lowell fixed his glasses as he spoke. "Does the boss want me to be a commissioner?" Nathaniel asked what Mr. Lowell had been ordered to him by the boss. Mr. Lowell remembered his boss' order after he got into the car from yesterday's visit. "Make that boy a commissioner and throw him with the rest of the troops. I have already asked the government to let us join the attack forces going to the island." President Martin looked outside of the window of the car. He watched the tall buildings that they passed by with disinterested eyes until the skyscraper he owns came to view. He smiled widely. President Martin remembers the prophecy well. However, because of his arrogance and the profit he earned from it, he forgot the most important fact, that the future couldn't be changed. The prophecy is absolutely definite. No matter what the process are, the same results will happen. Mr. Lowell snapped out of his thoughts and answered Nathaniel. "Yes, the boss ordered me to make you a commissioner. He also told me to give this to you," Mr. Lowell handed the document he has to Nathaniel, "the boss told me that he will wait for your decision only for two days because he has work for you on the third day. Choose wisely, Nathaniel Seth." Mr. Lowell got in the driver seat and drove away. Nathaniel watched the car disappear from his view before opening the document. His eyes widened at what he saw. "Party B will receive an amount of one hundred million dollars upon accepting a mission!" Nathaniel read one of the conditions in a low voice. For a moment, he doubted his eyes but he quickly decided that what he read was true. 'Party B is me. That means I will receive one hundred million dollars if I ever signed for a mission. It also says that even if I didn't complete the mission and ended up dying, a total amount of another one hundred million dollars will be sent to my family.' Nathan said inwardly. He took a deep breath and closed the document. He looked at the guys working inside the warehouse and looked down at the document in his hands. "It's better to not let them know about this. They will just treat me like trash if they find out that the boss made an offer like this to someone like me." Nathaniel thought. He dug dirt and put the document in hole he made to hide the document. Although Nathaniel that the guys he was working with weren't just ordinary employees but commissioners, he kept what he knew to himself. He didn't tell them that he was for a fact that they were commissioners and that they were doing something that most humans don't do. And the reason why he was keeping it a secret is because he knew that if the information he has got out for the world to see, the people, in general, will be in a state of panic. He remembered when he was still new to his job. He was naughty and went to the place where his seniors were secretly going at night. That night he went inside a crypt. He already knew the existence of the crypts since it appeared, however, he didn't know what was inside the crypts. And he was curious. The crypt he went to was filled with small balls the size of a pearl. But unlike regular pearls those were in different colors. There were blue, orange, and red. And in the center of all of the sparkling colorful pearls was a large polar bear, three meters in size. Nathaniel was terrified when the polar bear started attacking his seniors. The guys that kept bullying him at work were being bullied by the huge polar bear. His seniors killed the polar bear but they were worn out and had a lot of injuries, so they all went outside the moment they killed it. Nathaniel saw a black shining thing come out from the polar bear's mouth. And when he picked it he saw a broken shining black pearl but the size was like an egg. He took that black pearl and went out of the crypt. Since then, he let his seniors bully him but made sure to make a stand for himself. It was not an easy thing to do but for some reason he always succeeded. Nathaniel never knew that the broken black pearl he took was the reason why he could stand in front of such monsters who killed a three meter polar bear with a strength ten fold the normal polar bear people knew.
