MRS REIGN

MRS. REIGN “Okay, I’m willing to do it, as long as you can pay my mother’s medical bills,” Emma said, her voice slightly shaky. Jason remained silent for a moment, watching her carefully. He could see the hesitation in her eyes, but he also knew exactly why she had agreed. Her mother. Emma would do almost anything to make sure her mother received the treatment she needed. “Great,” Jason finally said. “You can leave now.” Emma blinked. “That’s it?” Jason raised an eyebrow. “What else do you want me to say?” “Nothing,” Emma quickly replied. “I’ll leave.” She turned around and walked toward the door. Just as her hand touched the doorknob, Jason spoke again. “Emma.” She stopped and looked back. “Remember what we discussed. From this moment on, everything needs to look convincing.” Emma nodded. “I understand.” She opened the door and walked out. The moment the door closed behind her, she released a long breath. OUTSIDE THE OFFICE “OMG! Emma, what have you gotten yourself into?” she whispered. She looked around to make sure nobody had heard her. “This cannot be happening.” She placed a hand over her face. “I must really be hallucinating.” Just yesterday, her biggest problem had been trying to figure out how to pay her mother’s medical bills. Now she had somehow agreed to become the fake fiancée of one of the most powerful businessmen in the country. Jason Reign. Even thinking about his name made her nervous. Emma shook her head. “I need to stop thinking about it.” She quickly walked back toward her office, hoping she could forget everything that had happened. Unfortunately, that was impossible. Her life had just changed completely. And she had no idea that another plan was already being made behind her back. --- EARLIER THAT DAY — MR. REIGN’S MANSION Rex was standing in the living room, going through some documents on his phone, when he heard Mr. Reign call his name. “Rex.” Rex immediately looked up. “Yes, sir?” “Come here. I want to see you.” Rex walked over to him. Mr. Reign was seated comfortably on the sofa, looking unusually cheerful. “Is Jason’s office separate from Emma’s office, or are they sharing an office?” he asked. Rex looked slightly confused by the question. “Their offices are separate, sir. Miss Emma currently works on the fifth floor, while Jason’s office is on the top floor.” Mr. Reign nodded. “So they barely see each other during working hours?” “Yes, sir.” Mr. Reign smiled. “That needs to change.” Rex raised an eyebrow. “Sir?” “I want you to arrange for Emma to move into Jason’s office.” Rex stared at him for a moment. “Are you sure, sir?” “Completely.” “But Jason—” “Jason will complain,” Mr. Reign finished for him. Rex smiled. “Yes, sir.” “I know my son. He will probably complain for an entire week.” Rex chuckled. “And what if he refuses?” Mr. Reign leaned back. “Then remind him that I’m still his father.” Rex nodded. “Okay, sir. No problem. Consider it done.” Mr. Reign smiled. “Good.” He looked toward the stairs. “And Rex?” “Yes, sir?” “Make sure Emma moves in with us too.” Rex's eyes widened. “Live here?” “Yes.” Mr. Reign smiled proudly. “She’s going to be family soon. She should get used to the mansion.” Rex tried not to laugh. “Yes, sir.” He already knew Jason was going to hate this. --- REX’S OFFICE — THE NEXT MORNING Emma knocked gently before entering. “You called for me?” she asked. Rex looked up from his desk. “Yes. Please sit.” Emma sat down. Rex smiled. “Tomorrow, you’ll be moving to Mr. Jason’s office.” Emma immediately frowned. “Excuse me?” “You heard me.” “But why?” Rex shrugged. “I’m only following instructions.” Emma looked confused. “I never complained about my office. I was perfectly comfortable there.” “I know.” “So why am I being moved?” “It wasn’t our decision. It was the chairman’s.” Emma sighed. “The chairman?” “Yes.” Emma leaned back. “Okay. But why does he want me there?” Rex gave her a mysterious smile. “That is something you’ll have to ask him yourself.” Emma stared at him suspiciously. “You know something.” “I know many things.” “Rex.” He laughed. “Don’t worry. Everything will be fine.” Emma stood. “Okay, no problem.” She walked toward the door, then stopped. “Wait.” Rex looked up. “Yes?” “Am I supposed to share the office with Jason?” “Yes.” Emma's eyes widened. “Every day?” “Yes.” She stared at him in disbelief. “This is going to be a long week.” Rex laughed. Emma shook her head and left. --- JASON’S OFFICE Jason was sitting behind his desk, going through some documents, when Rex entered. “Sir.” Jason didn't look up. “What is it?” “The chairman asked me to inform you that Mrs. Emma will be moving into your office tomorrow.” Jason slowly raised his head. “What?” “Emma will be moving into your office.” Jason stared at him. “Why?” “The chairman’s orders.” Jason slammed the file onto his desk. “Why would he say she should stay in my office?” Rex remained calm. “I don't know, sir.” “Did he explain anything?” “No.” Jason leaned back in his chair. “This is ridiculous.” Rex was about to leave when Jason stopped him. “And you agreed?” Rex smiled. “What was I supposed to do? Tell the chairman no?” Jason glared at him. Rex immediately turned toward the door. “I’ll leave you to calm down, sir.” “Rex.” “Yes?” “Don’t smile.” Rex quickly hid his smile. “Yes, sir.” He left. Jason sighed. He had barely gotten used to the idea of having Emma as his fake fiancée. Now his father wanted her in his office too. “This woman is becoming a problem,” he muttered. Before he could continue, the door opened. Mr. Reign entered. Jason immediately looked up. “Dad.” Mr. Reign smiled. “Why do you look so angry?” “Why would you tell Rex to move Emma into my office?” “So you two can get along.” Jason stared at him. “We're coworkers, Dad. We don't need to share an office.” Mr. Reign shrugged. “I disagree.” Jason stood up. “And why exactly do you disagree?” “Because you're going to be spending a lot of time together.” Jason narrowed his eyes. “She's my fake fiancée.” Mr. Reign smiled. “Exactly.” Jason's expression hardened. “Dad, don't start.” Mr. Reign laughed. “In fact, she’ll be living with us from now on.” Jason froze. “What?” “You heard me.” “You cannot be serious.” “I am completely serious.” Jason rubbed his forehead. “This is getting out of hand.” Mr. Reign crossed his arms. “And what about what I discussed with you yesterday?” Jason became quiet. After a moment, he sighed. “Yes, Dad. You can even call her to confirm it.” “Good.” Mr. Reign turned toward Rex, who had just returned. “Rex, go and call Emma.” “Yes, sir.” --- A FEW MINUTES LATER Emma entered the office with Rex. “You called for me, sir?” she asked politely. Mr. Reign smiled. “Yes, Emma. Come in.” Emma stood beside Rex. Mr. Reign looked at her curiously. “I want to confirm something.” Emma nodded. “Yes, sir.” “Is it true that you and Jason are now a couple?” Emma froze. Jason looked away. Rex lowered his head, trying not to laugh. Emma swallowed. “Yes, sir.” Mr. Reign's face immediately lit up. “Wonderful!” Jason groaned. “Dad…” Mr. Reign ignored him. “Since you’re now Jason’s fiancée, you’ll be living with us from now on.” Emma's eyes widened. “Living with you?” “Yes.” Emma looked at Jason. He looked like he was one second away from losing his patience. Emma turned back to Mr. Reign. “Okay, sir.” “But, Dad—” “Don't ‘Dad’ me, Jason.” Jason stopped talking. Mr. Reign smiled. “You better start giving me a grandchild soon.” Emma's face immediately turned awkward. Jason stared at his father. “Dad!” Mr. Reign burst out laughing. “Look at your face!” “This isn't funny.” “It is to me.” Jason sighed and dropped back into his chair. Mr. Reign then turned toward Emma. “You know what? Let's get going.” Emma looked confused. “Going where?” “To the mansion.” “But I still have work.” “No, you don't.” Emma blinked. “What?” “You don't have to work from now on.” Jason immediately looked up. “Dad, that's not how this works.” Mr. Reign ignored him. “Come on, Emma.” Emma nodded innocently. “Okay, sir.” She followed Mr. Reign out of the office. Jason watched them leave. The door closed. Silence filled the room. Jason stared at it. “Who does she think she is?” Rex stood nearby. Jason turned toward him. “She must have cast some kind of spell on my dad.” Rex tried to hide his smile. Jason narrowed his eyes. “You find this funny?” “No, sir.” “You're smiling.” Rex immediately straightened his face. “Sorry, sir.” Jason shook his head. “Everyone has suddenly lost their minds.” --- THE REIGN MANSION The car finally arrived at the Reign mansion. Emma stepped out and stared at the huge building in front of her. She had seen pictures of the mansion before, but seeing it in person was completely different. “This is where you live?” she asked. Mr. Reign smiled. “Yes.” Emma looked around. “It’s beautiful.” “You'll get used to it.” Emma suddenly felt nervous. She wasn't sure how she was supposed to act around Jason's family. Mr. Reign noticed her expression. “Don't worry, Emma. You're welcome here.” She smiled politely. “Thank you, sir.” “You can call me Dad.” Emma's eyes widened. “Dad?” “Yes.” She laughed nervously. “I don't think I can do that yet.” Mr. Reign chuckled. “That's fine. You'll get there.” They walked inside. Meanwhile, back at the office, Jason was still sitting behind his desk, staring at nothing. He couldn't believe his father had taken Emma home. His fake fiancée was now living under the same roof as him. And tomorrow, she would be sharing his office. Jason sighed. “This is going to be a disaster.” He had no idea that the biggest problem wasn't Emma moving into the mansion. It was the fact that, sooner or later, he might actually start enjoying having her around. And that was something Jason Reign was absolutely not prepared for.
