“Your job is just to act as a fake assistant in Reign Corporation for Jason Reign. You must have heard of him, right?” Cole asked.
Emma stared at him for a few seconds, completely confused by what he was saying.
“Are you serious?”
“Damn serious.”
Cole leaned back in his chair, watching her reaction with a small smirk.
Emma shook her head slightly.
“But why me?”
Cole's expression immediately changed.
“And if you don't want to do it…”
He paused.
“I might as well make your mother disappear.”
Emma's heart skipped.
“What?”
“And that car of yours?” Cole continued calmly. “It was so easy to tamper with.”
Emma's face went pale.
She finally understood that this wasn't a simple request.
It was a threat.
Cole leaned closer.
“So, act like a good girl and pretend none of this happened. Just be the perfect girlfriend and do exactly what I tell you.”
Emma swallowed hard.
“Okay,” she whispered.
Fear was already creeping into her voice.
“Umm… umm, can you explain better what exactly I need to do?”
Cole smiled.
“What you need to do is very easy.”
He picked up a small flash drive from the table.
“We already signed you up as Jason Reign's personal assistant. You resume tomorrow.”
Emma stared at the flash drive.
“Tomorrow?”
“Yes.”
Cole placed it in front of her.
“After you resume, get close to him. You need to find out where he keeps the company's important secrets.”
Emma's eyes widened.
“Secrets?”
“Yes.”
Cole pushed the flash drive toward her.
“Take this. Any important information you see about the company that is hidden or confidential, copy it into this flash drive.”
Emma stared at it nervously.
“And after that?”
“Once you're done, resign and bring everything back to me.”
Cole leaned back with a satisfied smirk plastered across his face.
Emma slowly picked up the flash drive.
“Oh…”
She looked completely confused.
“Okay.”
Cole nodded.
“Good.”
Emma stood up slowly.
She wanted to ask more questions, but she was too afraid.
All she could think about was her mother.
She couldn't risk anything happening to her.

🏠 BACK AT EMMA'S APARTMENT
“Anna, I'm home!”
Emma walked through the door and immediately dropped onto the couch.
Anna looked up from where she was sitting.
“Oh, you're back.”
She smiled.
“So, how was work today? Hope it wasn't stressful.”
Emma shook her head.
“No, it wasn't really stressful.”
She paused.
“But guess what?”
She tried to sound playful despite everything that had happened.
Anna raised an eyebrow.
“What?”
“You got a boyfriend?” Anna asked jokingly.
Emma's eyes widened.
“Wow! How did you know?”
Anna burst out laughing.
“Seriously?”
Emma laughed too.
“I never thought you'd get over that stupid crush of yours and actually have a boyfriend.”
Emma smiled.
“But what if I told you…”
She paused dramatically.
“…that it is the crush?”
Anna's smile disappeared.
“You must be joking.”
“I'm being serious.”
Emma couldn't stop smiling.
Anna stared at her in disbelief.
“Wait… you're telling me that your famous crush is actually your boyfriend?”
Emma nodded.
“Well…”
She looked down for a moment.
“Not exactly.”
Anna immediately became curious.
“What do you mean?”
“He asked me to go on a mission for him.”
Anna frowned.
“A mission?”
Emma nodded.
“But I said yes anyway.”
“Why?”
Emma smiled nervously.
“Anything to please him.”
Anna shook her head.
“Girl, you're really serious about this man.”
Emma laughed quietly.
“You have no idea.”
Anna leaned closer.
“So what type of mission did he ask you to do?”
Emma hesitated.
She couldn't tell Anna everything.
She couldn't tell her about Cole's threats.
She couldn't tell her that Cole was responsible for the accident.
And she definitely couldn't tell her that she was being forced into this.
Instead, she decided to give her a carefully edited version of the truth.
“He just asked me to get some secret information from Reign Corporation.”
Anna's eyes widened.
“Reign Corporation?”
Emma nodded.
“And I'll also be the personal assistant to the famous Jason Reign.”
Anna stared at her.
“Jason Reign?”
“Yes.”
“The Jason Reign?”
Emma laughed.
“Yes, Anna. That Jason Reign.”
Anna immediately hugged her.
“I'm so happy for you!”
Emma smiled, even though guilt was slowly building inside her.
Anna pulled away.
“So, will you just have to wait until the end of the month to pay?”
Emma shook her head.
“No.”
She paused.
“He already gave me a million for the mission, even though I tried to decline it.”
Anna's mouth fell open.
“A million?”
Emma nodded.
“I know. It's a lot.”
“What are you going to do with it?”
Emma sighed.
“I'll call the doctor and transfer the money to him.”
Anna nodded.
“That makes sense.”
There was a brief silence.
Anna's smile slowly faded.
“I can't wait for Mom to wake up.”
Her voice became softer.
“I miss her so much.”
She looked down.
“And I also miss my parents.”
Emma's heart softened.
She immediately stood up and walked toward her.
“I'm sorry.”
She wrapped her arms around Anna.
“It wasn't your fault.”
Anna hugged her back.
“I know.”
Emma gently rubbed her back.
“Now cheer up.”
Anna sniffed.
“Why?”
“Because we have something important to do.”
“What?”
Emma smiled.
“We need to pick my outfit for tomorrow.”
Anna immediately wiped her face.
“Oh!”
She stood up.
“Now that's something I can help with.”
Emma laughed.
“Come on.”
The two girls walked toward Emma's room.
For the first time that evening, Emma managed to forget about Cole for a few minutes.
But deep down, she knew tomorrow would change everything.

🏢 AT REIGN CORPORATION
The next morning arrived sooner than Emma expected.
She stood outside the huge Reign Corporation building, staring up at it.
The building was massive.
People walked in and out through the glass entrance while expensive cars stopped in front of the building.
Emma took a deep breath.
“Okay, Emma.”
She whispered to herself.
“You can do this.”
She tightened her grip on her handbag.
She was nervous.
Very nervous.
But she couldn't turn back.
Not anymore.
She walked inside.
After completing the necessary procedures, Emma was directed toward Jason Reign's office.
Every step she took made her heart beat faster.
Finally, she stood in front of the large office door.
She knocked.
No response.
She knocked again.
Still nothing.
Emma slowly opened the door.
“Good morning, sir.”
Jason was sitting behind his desk.
He didn't reply.
He simply lifted his eyes toward her and gave a small nod.
Emma stood awkwardly.
Jason's expression was unreadable.
He looked calm.
Too calm.
“And who are you?”
His voice was low.
Emma immediately straightened.
“I'm Emma.”
She swallowed.
“Your new personal assistant.”
Jason stared at her.
He didn't say anything for a few seconds.
Then his eyes narrowed slightly.
“Oh.”
Emma nodded.
“Yes, sir.”
Jason leaned back in his chair.
“I hope you're not some spy from another secret corporation.”
His voice was dangerously calm.
The type of calm that made Emma's stomach twist.
“Umm…”
She struggled to find the right words.
“Umm… what?”
Jason's eyes remained fixed on her.
“I asked you a question.”
Emma swallowed.
“No, sir.”
Jason tilted his head slightly.
“No?”
“No.”
“Then why do you look nervous?”
Emma quickly shook her head.
“I'm not nervous.”
Jason raised an eyebrow.
“Really?”
“Yes, sir.”
He continued staring at her.
Emma tried her best not to look away.
But being watched by Jason Reign felt completely different from anything she had experienced before.
His presence alone was intimidating.
Jason finally picked up the file sitting on his desk.
He opened it and started reading.
Emma stood quietly.
She didn't know what to do with her hands.
Jason turned another page.
“Emma Stone.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Your name is Emma Stone?”
“Yes.”
He looked at her again.
“Interesting.”
Emma frowned slightly.
“What is?”
Jason closed the file.
“Nothing.”
He placed it back on the desk.
Emma remained standing.
Jason pointed toward the chair in front of his desk.
“Sit.”
Emma quickly sat down.
Jason folded his hands together.
“Since you're going to be working for me, there are a few things you need to understand.”
Emma nodded.
“First, I don't tolerate lateness.”
“Yes, sir.”
“Second, I don't tolerate dishonesty.”
Emma's heart suddenly pounded harder.
She forced herself to remain calm.
“Yes, sir.”
Jason watched her reaction carefully.
“And third…”
He paused.
“You don't interfere with my personal affairs.”
Emma nodded again.
“Understood.”
Jason leaned back.
“Good.”
Emma released a small breath.
Jason picked up another document.
“You'll handle my schedule, organize my meetings, prepare the documents I request, and make sure I'm informed about anything important.”
“Yes, sir.”
“You'll also accompany me whenever necessary.”
Emma nodded.
“Okay.”
Jason looked at her.
“Any questions?”
Emma hesitated.
“No, sir.”
“Good.”
He pointed toward the door.
“You can start immediately.”
Emma stood up.
“Thank you, sir.”
She turned around and walked toward the door.
Just before she reached it, Jason spoke again.
“Emma.”
She stopped.
“Yes, sir?”
Jason looked at her with an unreadable expression.
“Don't make me regret hiring you.”
Emma nodded.
“I won't.”
She walked out and gently closed the door behind her.
The moment she was outside, she released a long breath.
She placed a hand over her chest.
“This man is terrifying.”
Emma looked toward the office door.
She had only been inside for a few minutes, yet Jason Reign had already managed to make her nervous.
She sat down at her new desk.
Her handbag rested beside her.
Inside it was the flash drive Cole had given her.
Emma stared at the bag.
I just need to complete the mission.
She took another breath.
Get the information, give it to Cole, and everything will be over.
At least, that's what she hoped.
What Emma didn't know was that Jason Reign wasn't as careless as Cole believed.
Inside his office, Jason picked up Emma's file again.
He looked at her photograph.
Then he looked at the information written inside the file.
His eyes narrowed.
“Emma Stone…”
He leaned back in his chair.
“Who exactly are you?”
Outside, Emma began organizing the documents on her desk.
She had no idea that Jason had already started questioning her identity.
And she certainly didn't know that becoming Jason Reign's personal assistant would put her closer to secrets she wasn't prepared to discover.
For now, she had one mission.
