MEETING MR. REIGN
“Why did you scare her so much and make her look like a traitor?”
Rex, Jason’s personal bodyguard, asked as he entered the office.
Rex was known for always being seen with Jason. Wherever Jason went, Rex was usually somewhere close by. He had worked with Jason for years and was one of the few people who could speak freely around him without immediately getting shut down.
Jason was sitting comfortably behind his large office desk, going through some documents. His expression remained completely calm, as if nothing in the world could bother him.
“And did you look into her background like I asked you?” Jason asked calmly without looking up.
“Yes, sir.”
Rex walked closer to the desk before continuing.
“I checked everything. Her name, family background, education, previous workplaces, financial records and even the people she has been associated with.”
Jason finally raised his eyes from the document.
“And?”
“She’s clean,” Rex replied.
Jason raised an eyebrow.
“Clean?”
“Yes, sir. Emma isn't involved in any shady organization. She isn't working for anyone suspicious, and there’s nothing in her background that suggests she’s a threat.”
Rex paused.
“She’s just a normal girl.”
Jason leaned back in his chair, staring at Rex silently.
“A normal girl?” he repeated.
“Yes, sir.”
Jason looked down at the document in front of him.
“That’s interesting.”
Rex nodded.
“She has been taking care of her sick mother, and from what I found, most of her financial problems come from medical bills.”
Jason's expression didn't change.
“So she really needs the money.”
“Yes, sir.”
Jason hummed quietly.
For some reason, knowing that made him feel slightly more comfortable with his decision.
Emma wasn't undercover agent.
She wasn't connected to anyone dangerous.
She was simply a girl struggling to take care of her mother.
Jason tapped his fingers lightly against the desk.
“Okay.”
Rex nodded.
“Any other meeting I need to attend?”
“Yes, sir,” Rex replied immediately. “You have another, meeting starting soon.”
“What time?”
“In about thirty minutes.”
Jason glanced at the clock.
“Fine.”
He picked up another document.
“And also, inform her that you, me and her will be going home for dinner with Dad. He called me earlier.”
Rex blinked.
“Oh, okay, sir.”
He hesitated before asking,
“But why do you need her to tag along?”
Jason slowly looked at him.
“He said I should bring my new assistant.”
Rex's lips twitched slightly.
“Your father wants to meet her?”
“Apparently.”
Rex nodded.
“Okay, sir. I'll inform her.”
“Just inform her we leave by seven.”
“Okay, sir.”
Rex turned around and left the office.
Jason watched him disappear behind the door before returning his attention to his work.
For some reason, he couldn't stop thinking about Emma.
He didn't know why.
Maybe it was because she was different from the people he usually met.
Most people around him were either afraid of him, trying to impress him, or looking for something from him.
But Emma?
She didn't seem interested in any of that.
She was just... Emma.
Jason shook his head.
“Forget it.”
He returned to his work.

EMMA'S OFFICE
Emma was sitting behind her desk, trying to organize some files.
She had only been working for Jason for a short while, yet it already felt like she had been there forever.
Jason was intimidating.
Extremely intimidating.
Every time he looked at her, she felt as if he could see straight through her.
She sighed and rubbed her forehead.
“I really need to get used to this place.”
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
“Can I come in, Miss Emma?”
Emma recognized Rex's voice.
“Yeah, sure.”
The door opened and Rex entered.
Emma looked up from her desk.
“Is everything okay?”
“Yes.”
Rex stood near the door.
“You have been asked to accompany us to a dinner with Mr. Reign.”
Emma blinked.
“Dinner?”
“Yes.”
“With who?”
“Mr. Reign.”
Emma immediately sat up straighter.
“Jason's father?”
“Yes.”
She stared at him for a few seconds.
“Okay...”
Rex nodded.
“We leave by seven.”
Emma looked at the clock.
“And when will we be done?”
“Maybe around nine.”
Emma nodded slowly.
“Okayyy.”
Rex smiled slightly.
“I'll come and pick you up when it's time.”
“Alright.”
Rex turned around and walked toward the door.
“Wait.”
He stopped.
Emma looked slightly nervous.
“Is there anything I should know before meeting him?”
Rex thought about it.
“Just be yourself.”
Emma frowned.
“That's it?”
“That's it.”
He smiled.
“Mr. Reign isn't as scary as Jason.”
Emma laughed nervously.
“That's not really comforting.”
Rex chuckled.
“Don't worry. You'll be fine.”
He left the office.
Emma stared at the closed door.
“Dinner with Jason's father...”
She sighed.
“Why do I feel like something is about to happen?”

DINNER WITH MR. REIGN
DINING ROOM
The Reign family dining room was enormous.
The long dining table was beautifully arranged, with several dishes placed neatly across it.
Emma sat beside Jason while Rex sat nearby.
Across from them sat Mr. Reign.
He was an older man with a warm smile and a calm personality.
Unlike Jason, he didn't have an intimidating presence.
Instead, he looked like someone who enjoyed making people comfortable.
Mr. Reign looked directly at Emma.
“So, young lady, what's your name?”
Emma smiled politely.
“Emma, sir.”
“Emma?”
“Yes, sir.”
Mr. Reign smiled.
“Oh, wow. Such a lovely name.”
“Thank you, sir.”
“You're Jason's new assistant, right?”
Emma nodded.
“Yes, sir.”
“And how long have you been working with my son?”
“Not very long.”
Mr. Reign glanced at Jason.
“My son doesn't usually keep assistants for very long.”
Jason looked up.
“Dad.”
“What?”
“Don't start.”
Mr. Reign laughed.
“I was only asking.”
Emma tried not to laugh.
Rex looked down at his plate, already amused by the conversation.
Mr. Reign turned his attention back to Emma.
“So, Emma, tell me about yourself.”
Emma hesitated.
“There isn't really much to say.”
“Oh, come on.”
Mr. Reign smiled.
“Everyone has a story.”
Emma looked down at her plate.
“Well... I'm just a simple girl. I recently started working for Jason, and I'm trying my best to take care of my mother.”
Mr. Reign's smile softened.
“Your mother?”
“Yes, sir. She's sick.”
Jason glanced at Emma.
It was the first time he had heard her talk about her mother in front of his father.
Mr. Reign looked concerned.
“I'm sorry to hear that.”
“Thank you, sir.”
“You must be a strong girl.”
Emma smiled.
“I just do what I have to do.”
Mr. Reign nodded approvingly.
“That is a very good quality.”
Jason remained quiet.
He watched as his father continued talking to Emma.
Within minutes, they were already getting along.
They talked about work, family, food and even some funny stories.
Emma found herself laughing several times.
Meanwhile, Jason sat beside her looking completely uninterested.
Rex was no different.
He quietly ate his food, occasionally glancing at Jason.
Jason caught his eye.
“What?”
“Nothing, sir.”
“Then stop looking at me.”
Rex quickly looked away.
Mr. Reign laughed.
“You two always act like you're attending a business meeting.”
Jason sighed.
“Dad, we're having dinner.”
“Exactly. Dinner is supposed to be enjoyable.”
Emma smiled.
“I agree.”
Mr. Reign pointed at her.
“See? Emma agrees with me.”
Jason shook his head.
“You just met her.”
“And already I like her.”
Jason stared at his father.
Rex tried desperately not to laugh.
Emma simply smiled awkwardly.
The rest of the dinner continued peacefully.
For the first time that evening, Emma forgot that she was sitting with her intimidating boss.
She felt comfortable.
But she had no idea that the real conversation was waiting for Jason later that night.
---
LATER THAT NIGHT
MR. REIGN'S ROOM
Jason stood inside his father's room with his arms crossed.
Mr. Reign sat comfortably on the edge of the bed.
“I love your assistant so much.”
Jason immediately frowned.
“None of my business.”
Mr. Reign chuckled.
“You're always so cold.”
“Dad, what do you want?”
Mr. Reign smiled.
“What I'm trying to say is that you need to make that girl your girlfriend.”
Jason's eyes widened slightly.
“What?”
“Or marry her as soon as possible.”
Jason stared at him.
“Dad...”
“And give me a grandchild before my time is over.”
“Hell nah.”
Jason shook his head.
“Nothing like that is happening.”
Mr. Reign laughed.
“Yes, it is happening.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“Absolutely not.”
Mr. Reign leaned back with a smirk.
“Or I could just tell her myself.”
Jason's expression immediately changed.
“Don't.”
“Why not?”
“Because I said so.”
Mr. Reign smiled.
“She is such a sweet soul.”
Jason rolled his eyes.
“She's my assistant.”
“And?”
“And that's it.”
Mr. Reign shook his head.
“You're too stubborn.”
Jason sighed.
“Dad, I'm not interested in a relationship.”
“Then pretend.”
Jason stared at him.
Mr. Reign smiled innocently.
“I'm just saying.”
Jason ran a hand through his hair.
“Okay.”
Mr. Reign smiled triumphantly.
Jason turned toward the door.
“But don't expect anything to happen.”
Mr. Reign's smirk remained on his face.
“We'll see.”
Jason left the room, already tired of the conversation.
Deep down, he knew he wasn't up for anything.
He didn't want a relationship.
He didn't want complications.
And most importantly, he didn't want emotions getting involved.

THE NEXT DAY
JASON'S OFFICE
Emma knocked lightly on the door.
“You called for me, sir?”
“Come in.”
Emma entered and stood in front of Jason's desk.
“You wanted to see me?”
Jason looked at her.
“It's Jason.”
Emma blinked.
“What?”
“Stop calling me sir.”
“Oh.”
She nodded.
“Okay... Jason.”
Jason leaned back in his chair.
“My father wants us to date.”
Emma's eyes widened.
“Excuse me?”
Jason's expression remained completely calm.
“I don't give a damn about it.”
Emma stared at him in confusion.
“What exactly are you saying?”
Jason folded his arms.
“You're going to pretend to be my girlfriend.”
Emma's mouth fell slightly open.
“Your girlfriend?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“My father won't stop talking about it.”
Emma stared at him.
“So you want me to pretend to date you?”
“Yes.”
She was silent for a moment.
Then Jason continued.
“And I'll take care of your mother's medical bills.”
Emma's expression changed immediately.
“My mother's bills?”
“Yes.”
