I gave him a disbelieving look. “Uh, you didn’t know that they would harass me after you told them all those nasty lies about me and my mom?”
His gaze sharpened, and his voice sounded softly dangerous. “How did they harass you?”
“They called me all kinds of names and treated me like dirt,” I told him. “I didn’t want to hear it, so I avoided places where I knew they went.”
“Did anyone ever touch you?” he asked.
“No,” I responded.
Feeling too agitated by this conversation to relax any longer, I stood up too. The water was up to my nose though, so I swam over to the side of the pool. Mason followed me and stood beside me as I held on to the edge.
