Chapter 7: The Test

Fiona stood in the midst of them, her heart running faster with an idea on what to do next, as she thought the little magic she had performed was all. Aira, with her piercing green eyes, gazed at her with an unnerving intensity. "Fiona, are you ready?" she asked, her voice low and husky. Fiona swallowed hard, trying to push down the lump forming in her throat. She was all excited enrolling herself into the magic academy, but she still wasn't sure if she was completely ready for trials. Her magic was unpredictable, and she feared losing control. Aira's gaze seemed to bore into Fiona's soul. "Jaxon, Remi, you guys should find out what she got" she called out, her voice echoing off the walls. Fiona felt a surge of fear as Jason and Remi stepped forward. They were both skilled in magic, and she knew they wouldn't go easy on her. Aira's eyes never left Fiona's as she whispered, "Show me what you're made of, Fiona." The room fell silent, and Fiona felt like she was drowning in the weight of their expectations. Jaxon and Remi began to circle around her, their eyes gleaming with a mixture of curiosity and aggression. Fiona raised her hands, trying to summon her magic. But it was like trying to grasp a handful of sand – the harder she squeezed, the more it slipped through her fingers. Jaxon and Remi closed in, their magic swirling around Fiona like a vortex. She stumbled backward, her heart racing with fear. She was no match for them. Just as Fiona was about to give up, she suddenly ran out of ideas. Logan came in to rescue her, his chiseled features and piercing blue eyes, strode toward her with a confident swagger. "Hey, back off," he growled, his voice low and menacing. Jaxon and Remi hesitated, their eyes flicking to Logan before they retreated. Aira's gaze never left Logan's face. She looked at him with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion. "What Exactly is this good for nothing, doing here?" she asked, her voice tinged with a hint of surprise. Logan's eyes locked onto Fiona's, and she felt a jolt of electricity run through her veins. "I've been watching," he said, his voice low and husky. "I couldn't just stand by and watch her get humiliated" Aira's eyes narrowed. "And since when did you become a hero?" she asked, her voice cold. Logan shrugged. "I do what needs to be done, Aira, just stop it already" Fiona was so happy that she couldn't think of how to appreciate Logan from saving her from embarrassing herself. He had saved her from Jaxon and Remi's onslaught. But as she looked at Aira, she sensed an underlying look of disappointment and anger on her face. Is there more to this test than I thought? She thought to herself. "I'm so sorry, Aira" Fiona said, her voice shaking slightly. Aira's gaze flicked to her. "You're not ready," she said, her voice dismissive. "You need to work on controlling your magic." Fiona felt a sting from Aira's words, but didn't let it get deep into her. She was happy at least Logan came through for her. As they were about to leave, Fiona caught Remi's eye. Remi smiled sweetly at her, but Fiona wasn't so comfortable with the smile, she stayed back and waited for her to move ahead. "That was a good try Fiona, don't worry you can only get better" Remi whispered, as she she quickly approached Fiona while looking at her. Fiona shivered, feeling a chill run down her spine. that was quite out of what she was expecting. She thought they would conspire against her or something. Fiona was sitting in the school canteen, right on an empty table with her head bent over the table trying to figure out what she would've done if Logan didn't show up for her. Suddenly she saw Jaxon siting beside her. "Hey, you okay?" he asked, his voice low and concerned. Fiona nodded, trying to sit upright . "Yeah, I'm fine." Jason's eyes locked onto hers. "Listen, Fiona. I know Aira can be tough most times but please don't let it deter you from the reason why you are here" Fiona raised an eyebrow. "Yea I know, I wasn't going to give up either, guess I just have to stay a little focused" Jason's expression turned serious. "Good one Fiona, I will leave you now" Fiona nodded, feeling a little bit relaxed. At least knowing Jaxon and Remi won’t use her weakness against her. She was about to start going out from the canteen when she saw Aira's eyes stuck on Logan direction. Why would she be looking at him that way? He only helped me out, she thought to herself. After some moment of standing and watching at Aira gazed at Logan, she tried to move on but her curiosity wouldn't let her. She decided to walk up to her, "Hello Aira, i have been watching and noticed you have your eyes fixed on him. Is there something so fascinating about him that I should know about too?" Aira was startled by Fiona's presence, and immediately she shifted her eyes and took them to another direction. "Do you know where those strength came from?" Fiona was confused she didn't understand what Aira was trying to say to her. "Strength? How do you mean?" Fiona asked, looking all lost and confused. "Logan. do you know where his strength came from?" Aira continued, as she took her eyes back to the direction where Logan is. "I wouldn't know Aira, and besides I know little or nothing about him. just seeing him for the first time" Fiona said but Aira's curiosity was certainly piqued as she couldn't get her mind off it. "He use to be the weakest amongst all, I'm just surprised with how strong he has become lately" Aira said but Fiona seemed to get even more confused.
