I left Orlando’s place like a wound being ripped open. The road back to Allessandro’s safe house is covered with rain and noise from the car. Everything inside me aches from the truth. My mother was a betrayal and died protecting my father. If this is true, then i have been staying with a man who hates my entire existence. I glance at Allessandro as he is behind the wheel, hasn’t said a word since we left Orlando’s.
Orlando’s words still echo inside my head: “Your mother made her choice. She betrayed the Rossi family for your father and died for it. Your father walked away with his life and your mother paid the price”
But I’ve seen the letter — Enzo’s letter.
It spoke of protection, not betrayal. A promise made, not broken.
