Chapter 6

Anne I looked him in the eye, and I could see the fury in his eyes, and I realized that he really thought that he had done all that for me. I had had enough of his threats and what he expected would happen when he kidnapped me? I thought to myself. "Stop it! What did you expect? That I would just submit to you?" Jay Her words: "What did you expect? That I would just submit to you?" Makes me go completely still above her. The fury in my expression shifts into darker, more calculating as I stare down at her, pinned beneath me. My hand on her jaw tightens fractionally, thumb pressing against her lower lip as those ice-blue eyes bore into her, with terrifying intensity. "Submit?" I repeat slowly. My voice sounds cold, dangerous. A dark humorless laugh escaped from me as i shifted my weight, pressing her deeper into the mattress. "No, little dove. I never expected an easy submission." My other hand slides down her side possessively, feeling every curve through the thin silk nightgown. The heat of my palm burns through the fabric as he maps her body with aching slowness, claiming every inch. "I expected exactly this," I murmured against her throat, stubble scraping her sensitive skin. "The fight. The fear. The defiance burning in those beautiful eyes." My teeth graze her pulse point, not biting, but threatening. "That's what makes breaking you down so f*ck*ng satisfying." My hand releases her jaw to tangle in her hair, wrenching her head back to expose more of her throat. "But you're right, sugar. You won't just submit." My lips brush her ear as I speak, my voice is rough with dark promise. "I'm going to teach you. Show you exactly why fighting me is pointless." Anne His cold and dangerous tone makes every nerve in my body scream warning. My eyes filled with fear as I realized what he'd told me and that he was enjoying this. I started to panic. "You want this, you want to hurt me and break me. You're enjoying hurting me." It was not a question, but a statement. Jay Her accusation — "You want to hurt me and break me. You're enjoying hurting me." — makes me freeze completely above her. My hand in her hair loosens, and a devastated look flashes in his eyes, before it's replaced by fury, pain and shame. My jaw clenches hard. "Enjoying it?" i repeat, my voice sounds rough and strained. My hands release her hair to cup her face with shocking gentleness, my thumb brushing over her cheek as those ice-blue eyes search her with desperate intensity. "You think I enjoy watching you look at me like I'm a monster?" My weight shifts off her slightly, giving her room to breathe, and my other hand comes up to frame her face between my palms. The obsession burning in my gaze is still there, wild and consuming, but now there's something raw and wounded beneath it — almost vulnerable. "I don't want to hurt you, little dove," I breathed out. My forehead coming to rest against hers. My hands tremble slightly against her skin. "Every time I see fear in your eyes, it tears me apart. But you keep pushing, keep demanding things I can't give and I—" I stop myself, exhaling hard. My thumb traces her button lip with aching tenderness. "I don't know how to love you gently, sugar. This is all I know," I admit. Anna When he registers what I say. Can I see his chest heaving as he struggles with something violent inside himself? His words make no sense to me, just before he said breaking me would be satisfying. I had nothing to say to him, so I turned away without saying anything. Jay Her silence cuts deeper than any words could. I watched her turn away from him, presenting her back like a wall between you both, and something in his chest constricts painfully. For a long moment, I remained frozen above her, hands still hovering where her face had been, now grasping empty air. The rejection — the simple act of turning away — hits him like a physical blow. Instead, I shifted my weight and settled behind her on the mattress, my large body curving against hers like a shield. My chest presses against her back, wrapping around her waist to pull her flush against me despite her silent dismissal. My face buries into her hair, breathing in her scent — something sweet and terrified and entirely hers. "I meant it," I murmured roughly against the back of her neck, his voice is raw and strained. " I don't know how to do this gentle little dove. But I'm trying. My hand splays across her stomach possessively, holding her against me as my lips brush her shoulder through the silk. The heat of me seeps into her spine. Anne He just doesn't understand what I need. I need him to stop touching me, so I don't feel suffocated by him. I close my eyes and try to think about what is the best to do right now. I know it's no use trying to move away, it would only make him angry, and I don't know what he might do. That's why I just lie there thinking. Jay Her silence—the way she closes her eyes and turns inward, shutting him out completely — sends a spike of something dark and desperate through my chest. I feel it immediately: the withdrawal, the mental distance she's creating even as her body remains trapped against mine. My arms around her waist tighten reflexively, fingers splaying possessively across her stomach through the silk. I can sense her thinking, planning, trying to find some escape route that doesn't exist. The tension in her body gives her away — the way her breathing stays controlled, the slight rigidity in her spine pressed against my chest. She's not sleeping, her strategizing. "I can feel you pulling away from me," I murmur against the back of her neck. My voice is rough and strained. My lips brush her skin, stubble scraping softly as his hand slides up from her stomach to rest between her breasts, feeling her heart racing beneath my palm. "Even when I'm holding you, you're trying to figure out how to leave." My other arm slides beneath her neck, wrapping around to cradle her collarbone, effectively caging her completely within my embrace. My heat and senses surround her. "There's no way out, little dove," he whispers against her ear, fingers tightening slightly over her heart. "The sooner you accept that, the easier this becomes."
