Chapter 2Drinking had never been my friend. I made stupid decisions when I indulged a little too much. Unfunny jokes made me laugh, and I found bad ideas to be genius. I’d even once agreed to break into an old high school building that had been closed in the seventies, and later used as a movie set at some point in the nineties. We’d climbed through an already broken basement window, had been there for maybe twenty minutes, and made it all the way up to the second floor, when someone opened the wrong door, and the alarm went off. It was hard not to get lost in a dark maze of halls and classrooms when you were plastered, but not nearly as hard as making the eight-foot jump back up and through the window you’d used to get inside to begin with.
