Chapter 8 I Want to Take Care of You

595 Words
Helping Lucas to his feet, he shook his head and asked me to help him to a nearby bench. Unsure where he was hurt, I did as he said. After settling down on the bench, Lucas stretched his arms, straightened his posture, and assured me, “It's okay, I'm fine.” However, the pained expression he had earlier was far from fake. I blamed myself, “Please don't lie to me. Let's go to the hospital.” Lucas chuckled but was interrupted by a soft voice behind us, "Why are you still here?" Lucas glanced at me and stood up, standing beside me. I turned around, and saw Grace who was looking at Lucas with amusement, “Amy, who is this?”   Grace's question was obvious. She was asking me what kind of relationship between Lucas and me. I didn't want to involve innocent people in the complicated affairs between Sebastian, her, and me. “Lucas, since you're not injured, let’s leave here.” With that, I left. And it took two hours to reach the location Grace had arranged for me. I looked around and felt a sense of relief. The villa was in a remote area on the outskirts, with few people passing by. Sebastian was unlikely to find such a place, and Grace would never reveal my whereabouts to him. It seemed safe enough to stay here until the baby was born.   After unpacking my luggage, my stomach growled, and I smiled, rubbing it gently, “Are you hungry, little one? Mom will cook for us.” The fridge was stocked with fruits and vegetables. I took some vegetables, an egg, and a bit of lean meat to make a sandwich. After eating, I took a short nap, then sat in the living room with my thoughts wandering back to Sebastian. Did he notice that I wasn’t home by now? After a whole night, was he still not going to have this child? I laughed at myself. Am I crazy to even have such expectations? Sebastian wouldn't show any compassion towards me. In his eyes, I’m wicked and shameless. He probably didn't think there were enough words to describe my villainy.   I felt my eyes sore and my heart pain. As I lowered my head, my vision blurred with tears. The wounds Sebastian left on me would take a long time to heal. I quickly diverted my mind from the negative thoughts when I felt discomfort in my lower abdomen. I placed a reassuring hand on my belly, apologizing to my unborn child, “I'm sorry, baby. Mom will be happier from now on.” It had only been a day since I found out about the baby, yet I spent the entire time negotiating with Sebastian and Grace.   I went upstairs to fetch the laptop when I thought about the advice the doctor gave me. As I continued browsing through my note titled “Precautions for Pregnant Women,” the doorbell rang. I stopped clicking on the webpage and looked at the direction of the door, no sound. Who will come here? The doorbell rang again. I left the laptop and was going to see who was outside through peephole. The doorbell rang once more, and I stepped back, recognizing the familiar voice from the other side, “Amy, it's me, Lucas. Open the door.” Lucas. I took a deep breath, and walked over to open the door, asking, “What brings you here?" Lucas looked at me and replied, “I want to take care of you.”
