"Yes?" Mrs. Cooper quickly regained her composure upon seeing me, and I studied at her for a few moments, shoving both hands into my pants pocket. "What do you want?"
"I just wanted to ask if you've seen Reese. I was with her earlier, but I had to leave her because..." Reese's mother furrowed her brows, looking at me as if wondering why I was offering an explanation. "I'm sorry, has she returned here?"
Her eyes narrowed as though she were contemplating something, then she folded her arms across her chest. "Yeah, she came here this afternoon..." she nodded, and I exhaled in relief.
