I DIDN’T KNOW HOW MUCH sleep I’d had, but it didn’t feel like enough. The temptation to close my eyes again and pull the duvet over my head overwhelmed, but after one failed attempt, I kicked the cover aside. From the bed, I crossed to the door and placed my ear against it. I had no idea how late the others had gone to bed, but I hadn’t heard them come in before I’d dozed off. At no sounds whispering through the thick wood, I pulled down the handle. On the landing, I turned left and almost walked into a sleeping Sean. Slouched upon the top step and fast asleep, his shoulder and left cheek pressed against the wall, his chest rising and falling with each breath. I tiptoed past, put my weight onto the step beside him, and lowered my other foot down on to the next, where I couldn’t resist
