MY LINGERING TIREDNESS made us late for work on Monday. When we pulled up on site, Kyle, Connor and Daniel already worked in their hard-hats, as did Jack and two of his workforce. After sending them a wave, I reached into the pickup for my laptop and tucked it under my arm before grabbing my sketchpad to stick under there, too. When I went to lift the cool box, Sean stretched around for it. He carried it as he walked me to the hut. With something to do in the cube—something I enjoyed—I thought of it less as a prison and more like an office.
