Chapter 3

4am, my alarm beeps, it’s time to get going. I look at my dad and he looks’ so torn about what to do. I know this can’t be easy for him, but he knows I am right.

“Mom has a car waiting for you right outside the boarder. Another wolf that ran to the human realm for a similar reason is waiting. You just need to be quick enough to get there, dad, do NOT get caught. I believe in you.” I try to muster up all the bravery and courage I could, so he would not see me tremble at the thought of being alone.

“Emily, I..I.. I don’t think I can just leave you here. I know I am a weak wolf, but I would fight to the death for you.” He rubs his hand on the back of his neck, my alarm is beeping, we are running out of time.

“Dad! You have to go please! Go now! You will miss your chance mom is waiting for you. I am strong, I got that from you. You are not a weak wolf you are the strongest one I know. I love you, do not worry about me. I will be fine, please. Go!” I pushed him towards the woods, he could easily stop me, but he knew it will be no use. He has to leave me behind, I know it will be the hardest decision of his life, apart from leaving his mate behind. Right on queue, we hear cars coming from across the pack, guards yelling and directing the cars. I look at him one last time, as he pulls me into the biggest hug I have ever received.

“Call me when you get there. Give mom a hug for me.” He kisses the top of my head and I push him towards the forest. He looks back at me and bows his head in respect, as a tear falls to the ground. I blink once and he is gone, I am alone. I sit down on the steps and find myself numb. Today is the reckoning, and I am first in line.

I go back inside as I hear the cars leave, my numbness wears off and I am a nervous wreck. What if he didn’t make it? No, no. You would have heard something already.

“Em, we have to get some sleep. Today is going to be a long day for us both and we need our strength. You did the right thing by getting him out of here. He will be safe from all of this. Mom will be happy to have her mate.” Opal reassures me. I listen to her advice and take a quick shower and crawl into bed. The silence is deafening as I fall asleep, alone for the first time tonight.

My phone rings and vibrates next to my ear. I scramble to sit up and find it, buried under my pillow. “Hello?” I answer not even reading who it was from.

“I made it, baby. I made it.” My dad sobs into the phone. Calmness washes over me, I feel I can breathe again.

“Thank the goddess!”

“Honey, it’s mom. Thank you for making him leave, I feared the worst. But he is here, safe now. I wish you could have come.”

“I wish too, but if I were to leave there was a good chance, we would not have made it out. Malakai may leave us alone out here, but he would have found out I left. I heard them talking about someone coming to by to check on us throughout the night, I was taking a gamble that they would be too busy to come at 4. But they did come at 4:15am and walked by every window in our house. I was getting ready for bed when I seen them. If I were to go, they would have sounded the alarm and we would both have been caught. It takes at least 30 minutes to get to the border between our realms.” I try to convince her and get her to understand. She sighs heavily, “You are my daughter, a strong, brave, courageous, woman. Do not forget that today. Please, call us as soon as it’s over. I will be waiting by the phone; I will not miss it. Happy birthday, honey.” I smile, she always tries to tell me how brave I am, but I honestly just feel like a lost puppy, not knowing where to go.

“Thank you! I will. I promise. I love you guys, I have to get going, it’s about time to get ready.” I let out a deep sigh.

“We love you, baby.” And the phone hangs up. I sit there for a moment, wondering if I made a mistake in not trying to leave with him. But I know in my heart I did the right thing.

I run the bath to try to ease my tense muscles. To be honest I am I nervous wreck. When I get in, the hot water washes over my body and soothes me immediately. The aroma of mint and lavender calms my racing thoughts. Right when I was about to doze off there is a knock on the door. I jump, not expecting anyone this early. I get out and throw on my robe and make my way to the door, another knock.

I opened the door and see one of Malakai’s guards standing there.

“It is time.” Is all he says before he grabs my arm and shoves me in the car. I try to protest, still not understanding this is happening now and not this afternoon like I had thought. I am only in a robe and it’s chilly. The guard keeps staring at my exposed legs which makes me extremely uncomfortable. I am now 20 years old, the age where Opal and I are fully connected. We can find out mate, not that I will get a chance too. I am still praying hat he will find someone better than me.

We drive to the pack house, and I see a line of she-wolves standing outside, waiting for the orders to go inside. When we pulled up another guard opened my door and dragged me to the line-up. It is chilly this morning, my hardened n*****s are on display for everyone. I have goosebumps all over my body, you would think being a wolf would make me immune to the cold, but with being ill nourished, my wolfs abilities are subdued a bit.

“Make sure they are all set to go in, you know what to do!” One of the men shouts. The girl at the front of the line screams which makes all of us jump and look around to see what is happening.

“They are stripping us!” the one directly in front of me whispers loudly. My heart is pounding, oh no, goddess please! The guards are forcing their clothes off no matter how much they struggle it doesn’t matter. In the end you will be standing here naked, for everyone to see. The guard looks at me and smirks.

“Happy birthday.” He says as he cuts loose my robe and I gasp. They douse us in water and make us stand in the cold, hardening our n*****s for Malakai’s cruel game. They all eye us and if anyone tries to cover up, they get shocked. Being shocked right now would feel like your insides are melting with how wet and cold we are.

“Malakai is ready. Go in now.” They yelled at us, and we all filed in, the guards smacking the as*es of the girls in front of me. When it was my turn to pass, one of this grabs my n****e so hard I cry out and he laughs, “Malakai will have fun with this one.” They say to one another and laugh. He let me go and I ran inside.

“Marvelous! Thank you all for coming, now let’s get down to business.

“Stand in a line now, facing the wall.” He orders and we all turned. Malakai’s Beta, Johnathon, stands behind the girl to my left and sniffs her.

“This one smells sweet, I wonder what she tastes like?” He mocks as he brushes up against her. I look over and she has a tear streaming down her face. She glances at me and I give her smile small and she nods slightly at me. She takes a deep breath and calms herself. But now it’s my turn, he rubs his fingers over the top of my butt, and hums in approval.

“This one is also gorgeous, don’t you think?” Malakai comes behind me and smells my neck. I try hard not to cringe from his touch. With my bareness and his bulging erection I do not want to give him a reason to do anything drastic, so I stand there and grit my teeth.

“Mm, yes. Emily, she would be perfect. But I need to test them out before I can make a full decision.” They both chuckled like this is some fun game to them.

“On your knees!” he shouts. I think he is talking to me but when I look over, he is pulling number 4 down as he unbuckles his pants. All of us gasp in horror at the act that is about to be forced upon this innocent woman. She is crying and he smacks her.

“If I feel teeth, it will be your life.” He plunges into her mouth.

“Watch this, all of you! So, you may know what is in store for you over my extended trial. I will find the right bride, but not after I sample you all.” He smirks as he rubs the top of her head. She is crying as he plunges into her, Johnathon standing behind her holding her head still for his invasion.

“Good girl.” Johnathon says as he looks my way.

“You’re next.”
