Chapter2:The betrayal

310 Words
Zara worked with her usual warmth and dedication as she served customers at the restaurant. After leaving work early, she decided to surprise Jason. She had originally requested two hours off before closing time, but because her boss cared deeply for her and knew how important the anniversary was, she allowed Zara to leave even earlier. The thought of surprising Jason made her smile as she walked through the crowded streets carrying the neatly wrapped gift box. It had taken her weeks to save enough money to buy him the wristwatch he had admired during one of their outings. Every extra shift. Every sacrifice. Every long day at work. It had all been worth it. Today was special. It marked exactly five years since they had started dating. Five years of love. Five years of sacrifice. Five years of dreams. Five years of promises. The memory brought another smile to her face as she climbed the stairs leading to his apartment. She reached into her handbag and brought out her key. Months ago, Jason had handed her a spare key. "My home is your home." She had treasured those words. Whenever life became difficult, whenever work exhausted her, whenever they argued, she remembered them. They made her believe that one day she would truly become his wife. They would spend the rest of their lives together. They would have children. They would build a family. But something felt different. The hallway was unusually quiet. Normally, Jason played music loudly or left his television on. Sometimes she could hear him talking on the phone before she even reached his door. Today there was nothing. Only silence. Zara adjusted her handbag. She wanted everything to be perfect. She imagined his surprise. His smile. Perhaps even a proposal. She inserted the key into the lock and quietly stepped inside. Immediately, something felt wrong.
