Chapter4: Anthony Ashford

563 Words
Anthony Ashford was a man the world could not ignore. A man to be reckoned with. He commanded respect from both men and women without even asking for it. Anthony Ashford was the kind of man who made people stop and stare. Standing at over six feet tall, he possessed a commanding presence that was impossible to ignore. His broad shoulders and athletic build were the result of years of discipline and early morning workouts. His dark hair was neatly styled, complementing the sharp features of his handsome face. His piercing gray eyes carried a cold intensity that often made people nervous, while his strong jawline and perfectly sculpted features had earned him countless magazine covers. His smooth caramel skin and effortless elegance made him look more like a movie star than a businessman. At thirty-two, he had become the youngest CEO in the history of Ashford Holdings, one of the largest conglomerates in the country. Newspapers called him The Golden Heir. Business magazines competed for his interviews, and countless women dreamed of becoming the future Mrs. Ashford. Yet Anthony cared little for any of it. Standing before the floor-to-ceiling windows of his penthouse, dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit, he stared at the busy city beneath him. The morning sun reflected against the glass buildings while the sounds of Lagos slowly awakened. His phone had been ringing nonstop. Business partners. Journalists. Investors. His assistant. Everyone wanted a piece of Anthony Ashford. He checked the expensive watch on his wrist. Seven-thirty. He had a board meeting at nine and a press conference by noon. As he adjusted his cufflinks, a knock sounded on his bedroom door. "Come in." His younger brother, Ethan, entered with a grin. "Mom says if you skip breakfast again, she'll personally drag you downstairs." Anthony raised an eyebrow. "Is that a threat?" "It's a promise." A small smile appeared on Anthony's face. Among all the people in his life, Ethan was perhaps the only person who could make him smile. The Ashford mansion was already alive when Anthony walked downstairs. The dining table was occupied by his father, Richard Ashford, who was reading the business section of the newspaper, while his mother, Margaret Ashford, supervised the household staff. "Good morning," Anthony said. His father lowered his newspaper. "The investors from Dubai confirmed the partnership." Anthony nodded. "I've already reviewed the documents." His mother smiled. "And your fiancée called. She'll meet us at the press conference later." Anthony simply nodded again. His engagement to Isabella Grant had been announced six months earlier. The media called them the perfect couple. Beautiful. Successful. Powerful. The future king and queen of the business world. But Anthony had long learned to keep his emotions hidden. After breakfast, his convoy arrived outside the mansion. The moment his car pulled into the company headquarters, the atmosphere changed. Employees straightened. Conversations stopped. Several female workers stole glances at him. "That's Mr. Ashford." "He looks even more handsome today." "Imagine being engaged to that man." Anthony ignored them all. He walked confidently through the lobby, his expensive shoes echoing against the marble floors. Tall. Handsome. Successful. Untouchable. Everything about Anthony Ashford screamed perfection. But perfection was only an illusion. Because before the day ended, the man who seemed to have everything would discover that money, power, and success could not prevent the one thing he feared most.
