Vera drove directly to the hospital and her hands trembled on the steering wheel. She had never been one to show anger or confidence and it scared her just how much she had to act in front of her uncle.
She was not as tough as she acted but she knew it was the only way to set him straight.
She got to the hospital and went straight into his room, before sitting besides him and taking his hands in hers
“hey dad I’m back, how did you day go? Mine was pretty shitty you see, get well soon so I’ll tell you all about it.” She said, stroking his hands kindly with a sad smile on her face.
“Dad please I need you, just get better for me please. I can't do this on my own, it’s all too much for me.” she said again, with tears forming in her eyes. She was nothing but a daddy’s princess and having to make decisions without him for the first time scared her. She may have trained her whole life to be the perfect heir and successor, but she never got any training for having to lose her father.
She moved closer to him and rested her head on his chest, still holding his hand in hers. She was the only child of her parents and she loved them so much.
After losing her mum at the early age of 13 to cancer, her dad has had to take care of her alone, refusing to remarry or start another family.
He always worried that she would become stressed because of it, especially when it came to the inheritance. He didn’t want to give anyone a reason to fight over his property as it all belonged to his Daughter and so he trained her himself, making her into the best successor for Montgomery.
“I think Uncle Victor is trying to take the company from you and I’m scared that I would not be strong enough to fight him. Please dad, wake up for my sake and end this nightmare. I could only imagine what he spoke about today with the other directors, I'm scared” she said again, crying like a baby on my father’s chest. It felt comforting to hear his heartbeat, and it brought relief to me.
It served as evidence that he was still alive, and it gave me hope that he would get up soon.
She hugged her father even tighter, crying like a child as she closed her eyes.
“I love you so much dad, please don’t leave me please.”
Vera stayed for the rest of the night by her father’s side, because it was where she felt the safest.
The next morning came and Vera was already up. She kissed her dad one last time and left the hospital back to her house so that she could freshen up
She had decided to go to the office today and see for herself how much damage her uncle caused. Rumors fly around faster in offices and she also had her secretary who was the master of business gossip. She was going to find out what Victor told the board, and she was going to correct it.
She went home and freshened up as planned, and it was time to leave for the office.
“Morning Charlie” she said as she stepped out of the house to meet her already standing outside.
“Someone looks like s**t” Charlie said looking at Vera weirdly like she had just seen a ghost.
Have you been crying Vera? She asked with a concerned look on her face, as she moved closer to her.
Charlie was not just Vera's personal secretary but was also her best friend and so despite the fact that they had a work relationship of boss and employee, they talked freely to each other.
“Yh I stayed with dad yesterday so I’m a little spooked” Vera replied, yawning and scratching her eyes.
“Here, I got you coffee, Latte just the way you like it” Charlie said, handing her the hot cup before turning to enter the car
“Thanks hunny you are the best, and we should get going” Vera said smiling as Hoor taking a sip from her coffee
“Any news on the meeting Victor held?” She asked as soon as they were on the road. She was not gonna waste any time in the dark, giving Victor more room to act out
“I heard he invited some of the investors and held a board meeting, but it wasn’t really a success” Charlie replied from the driver’s seat, turning the mirror so she could see Vera.
“So the meeting did not hold?” Vera asked with a sudden smile on her face
“Yes boss, none of the investors showed up.” Charlie replied again, smiling with her.
“Of course not, all of them are very loyal to my father and will not make any decisions without him” Vera was moved by the news, and it brought relief to her. She could finally see that her uncle was not as powerful as she thought and this gave her even more confidence.
“Thank you dad” she said to herself still smiling
“Anything else?” She asked again, looking forward at Charlie
“I think he is planning to hold a press conference this Friday exposing the CEO’s state of health to the world?” Charlie said, shaking her head in disgust.
She hates Victor as much as Vera did, if not more but she always kept calm because he was family and she did not want to overstep her boundaries.
“Well we just have to hope that father wakes up before then, or this whole thing would be blown out of proportion” Vera replied picking up her tablet to go through it.
“Schedule a meeting with the investors, I would like to thank them for their patience and assure them that everything is under control, the way it should be.“ she said again
“What time?” Charlie asked, picking up her phone with one hand while she drove with the other
“Make it the day of the conference, they should have the liberty of knowing before the rest of the world does.”
”Oh victor would be fuming mad” Charlie said again, laughing as she typed a few things into her phone and placed it back down.
