Margaret Tedder woke up on 29 April 1833 after sleeping for about two hours. She’d lain in bed all night tossing and turning, imagining her life with her new husband, imagining a home of her own, imagining children. Her sister slept soundly next to her, oblivious to Margaret’s hopes and dreams. ‘Good morning, Mama,’ Margaret beamed at Catherine as she pranced into the kitchen. ‘Good morning, Susan,’ she said to the cook. ‘What a beautiful autumn day. The sun is shining. It is a good omen.
