Chapter Twenty

Cindy looked at the audience and her eyes met with Jonathan's and she could see his cold face melt into a gentle one when she flashed him a smile. How could she be worried when he was there, among the crowd looking out for her?

Since the MC didn't say who she was dating because it was not allowed, some of the men didn't know that she was Jonathan's woman.

The first bidder was an old man at 10 million. Cindy couldn't help but feel disgusted. Where we're his manners when bidding on a young girl who was enough to be his daughter?

Even the people around him couldn't help but cast disgusting looks at him but he didn't care after all, he was promised the beauty and a bountiful project by the James Group heiress.

Didn't he have a daughter himself? How would he feel if his daughter was to be taken away by an old man like him?

"What's wrong with that old man? Thinking on getting a beautiful lady just because he has the money?"

"He's so disgusting? Can't he see that she's almost like a daughter to him?"

"Why did I have a bad feeling about this? It's like the old man is upto no good!"

The people couldn't help but whispers among themselves but the old man turned deaf ears to everyone, they had no idea that he had landed himself a project so why would he care about what they said.

Jonathan cast a warming look at him and when the old man looked back and saw Jonathan look at him, he was so scared that he almost gave up. But since the auction has rules that were to be followed, he ignored his warning.

Thinking on getting my woman and ignoring my warning, huh? I'll teach you a lesson after this, he thought. He knew that the old man was put up by someone and he must have been promised something in return, if not he wouldn't go against him.

When the young men saw an old man bid, they also started to bid. How could they let such a beautiful maiden be taken away by an old geezer? Where we're they going to get their who back from? Jonathan let them have their fun, he was not worried about them, he only had his eyes on the woman on the stage who seemed to be so worried.

Although she still had a graceful smile on her face, she seemed like she would cry any time soon.

When the bid reached 50 million, no one seemed to want to bid any longer and it was sti the old geezer with the highest bid.

The MCs also seemed to be worried for Cindy, how could they let her go with that old disgusting man so they kept on dragging the bid.

Crystal who was sitting beside her bidder, had a gloating look on her face.

'See Cindy, you're not that important to Jonathan like you think. Even if he didn't bid for me, I still got a young man while you're stuck with an old man,' she thought with a sinister smile on her face.

Seeing those anxious faces of everyone who were worried about cindyade her happy and angry at the same time.

She was happy because she was being tramped on by an old man while she was angry because those people were worried about Cindy's outcome of the bid. Why couldn't they worry about her when she was only bid at 20 million and that Jonathan never even tried.

Her bidder didn't notice all the emotions on Cindy's face since he was also focused on Cindy on stage.

Maybe he should reconsider his bid and save a damsel in distress right? But bidding twice was not allowed. When Crystal noticed that even her bidder was looking at Cindy, she almost lost it.

What was so good about her? What?

The young men who were bidding were helpless, and they couldn't do anything to get the beauty since 50 million was not a small amount depending on their businesses. They had to give up, that money was not easy to come by.

Jonathan's mother on the other end was fuming, what was his son thinking letting that old man bid on his girlfriend? It seemed like she didn't really raise her son well. Can't she see that the lady is panicking on the stage? She could see how Cindy was biting her lower lip so as not to burst into tears.

Even Martin, Jonathan's friend was worried for Cindy.

"Man, what do you think you're doing? Can't you see your woman is panicking?" He couldn't help but ask. His friend seemed to have left his brain at home while going to the gala.

"What? But nothing has happened right?" Jonathan retorted back. He didn't that he was doing something wrong.

"That's not the case man, don't you think she's feeling embarrassed because she is being bid on by a disgusting old man? Don't come crying to me if she breaks up with you today for letting that old guy trample on her dignity as a woman!" He was really angry at his friend.

He wanted to open up his head and see what it was really made of. Maybe it was really empty when it came to such things.

Jonathan thought that since he was going to be final bidder, there was nothing wrong by creating suspence right? Cindy wouldn't break up with him because of that right.

He was going to know later after the gala.

When the MCs saw that no one was going to outbid the old geezer, they knew they couldn't do anything and decided to finish Cindy's auction.

"Cindy is going for 50 million, once, twice...," Before he could finish his sentence, he was interrupted by a deep cold voice,

"200 million," that was enough to send the room to a pin drop silence as everyone turned to look at where the voice came from. There was a sudden sighs of relief in the room. Everyone seemed like they have been woken up from a bad dream. Even Cindy who seemed to have lost hope, sighed in relief and she could feel tears roll down her cheeks.

"200 million? That's a lot of money!"

"Of course it's a lot, how could he let his woman suffer in the hands of that old woman?"

"I feel for her man, I almost staked my company for her!"

The people were really surprised, that was a lot of money for a bid. Even cidny thought that Jonathan was stupid for bidding 200 million on her.

Crystal who heard Jonathan's voice couldn't help but gasp in surprise. 200 million? For Christ's sake she was only bid for 20 million yet Cindy's bid was at 200 million. She knew that they couldn't outbid Jonathan unless they wanted to die.

The project she had promised the old man was only worth 50 million and if they bid anymore, they would be going for a loosing round.

Even Jonathan's mom was relieved. She was worried about Cindy landing in the hands of that old man. If that could've happened, she could have really disowned Jonathan. Who was he to play with her future daughter in-laws feelings.

She then realized that Jonathan was really waiting to crush that old man's fantasies. How dare he think of even laying his dirty hands on her daughter. She was like a daughter to her since she didn't have any, right?

His idea was not that bad but he was still stupid to make the girl panic like that infront of people. She had to teach that son of his a lesson and take Cindy back with her to her place.

But she didn't have the same thoughts as those people. Although 200 million was a lot of money, but not for them.

And since it was for saving her daughter in law and also for the welfare homes, she wouldn't mind even if it was 1 billion.

When the old man saw that he was outbid, he turned to look at Crystal who shook her head at him telling him not to bid anymore.

The MCs quickly finished the auction on Cindy and then led her towards the end of the small staircase where Jonathan was waiting for her.

When he saw her year striken face, he panicked. Why is she crying? He had never panicked like in his whole life.

He didn't even know how to comfort a crying person let alone a woman. He had never comforted anyone in his life before. Jonathan's mother who also had seen Cindy's dampened mood had walked over. She knew that the child had panicked then while she was on the stage.

Crystal thought that Jonathan's mom was going to slap Cindy or reprimand her for what Jonathan had done but was surprised at what happened next. She could only widen her eyes with mouth agape as she watched the three. They seemed like a perfect family.

She was so prideful about being introduced to Jonathan by his mother that she said all those words to Cindy, but what was she seeing now? Even those ladies who were in the same waiting room earlier cast disdainful looks at her.

When that old man saw Elizabeth walk over to Cindy and pull her into her embrace, he felt like his knees were going to give up. He had no idea that Cindy had any connection with the Blacks, if he had known he wouldn't have agreed to Crystal's offer.

Who didn't know that formidable woman, she was not someone to be messed with!. He couldn't help but feel regretful.

Cindy was suddenly pulled into an embrace. It felt so safe, so safe just like a motherly embrace that felt so peaceful. Remembering how she had felt when on the stage with that old man's gaze on her, she broke into sobs.

She knew Jonathan had promised her that no one would outbid him but she didn't know that he would until the last minute to do that.

Elizabeth and Jonathan had to take her out of the events room in order not to interfere with the remaining bid.
