Crossroads

Alejandro’s POV I parked my black SUV on a side street, watching the city move like it owned the night. And then I saw a beautiful girl, the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. A girl in a white dress, walking alone, looking out of place and Fragile. Completely unaware of how vulnerable she looked against the shadows creeping around her, and this made me stiffen. This place wasn’t safe for someone like her. And then I saw those perverted men looking at her as if she were a piece of meat. What is she doing here? I saw three of them moving like predators. This made my jaw tighten. Nobody threatened anyone I like. She is now under my protection, and no one dares while I am around. I opened the car door, letting the night air hit me. The danger was drawing closer to her, but I wasn’t about to wait. “Hey!” My voice cut through the street, sharp and cold. The men froze immediately, their eyes filled with fear, they knew what I could do, I am the king of the street, and no one dares to go against my orders unless you want to meet whoever is the boss of hell badly. “You'd better go,” I said, calm but deadly. “I don’t think you want trouble tonight.” Their hesitation confirmed what I already knew, they know who they are dealing with and they dare not go against me. I looked at the girl again. Her eyes were filled with fear, and I felt the instinct to reach out to her and tell her everything was okay but I hesitated. She was fragile and trembling in ways that made my chest ache. One wrong move or one sudden gesture, and I could terrify her instead of protecting her. My phone buzzed, pulling me back. “Boss, we’ve got him,” came the voice of one of my men through the earpiece. I swallowed, reminded of why I was here. But the girl stayed in my mind. Who was she? Why was someone like her wandering these streets alone? “Eliana,” I called softly, while she was standing by at the entrance of the motel. In an instant, she appeared beside me. She is my trusted partner in everything. Sharp and capable, always one step ahead. “There’s a scared-looking girl in a white dress outside the motel,” I told her quietly. “Keep her safe. Don’t let her know I’m involved. She doesn’t need more fear.” Eliana nodded. That small gesture carried all the understanding I needed. I turned toward the motel, but before I went inside, I gave the girl one last look, and her eyes met mine. I can see Fear in her, yes, but I can see something else too—something that ignited a spark in me, a spark I hadn’t felt in years. Something dangerous and Something I couldn’t ignore. And then I heard a sudden noise—i saw a shadow moving fast. A bullet whizzed past my head. “Get down!” I shouted and ran to grab the girl and pulled her behind me. Chaos erupted around us, but I stayed focused, my heart pounding in my chest. I signalled Eliana, and she moved instantly, guiding the girl toward safety before I walked towards my car without looking back. I stayed focused watching for any other movement. “Lorenzo,” I called over my shoulder. “Find out who’s behind this. And I want everything on that girl—family, connections, anything. Full report tomorrow morning.” He nodded and disappeared into the shadows. I walked to my car with my mind racing. I dialled Eliana’s number. “Where’s the girl?” “She’s with me,” she said calmly. “Good. Keep her safe. Don’t let her know I’m involved. Look for her family and get her home if you can. And make sure no one follows her.” I trusted Eliana completely. She was the only one I would leave her with. The next morning, I buried myself in financial reports, trying to push the events of last night out of my mind, but a knock interrupted me. “Sir, here are the reports you asked for,” Lorenzo said, placing a thick folder on my desk. I opened it, expecting routine background checks. Instead, my eyes froze on what I saw. Her name, school and neighbourhood—all normal. But her family history? Nothing, it was erased deliberately. Someone powerful had wiped every trace. Who was this girl? I leaned back in my chair, tension coiling in my chest. She wasn’t just a scared girl wandering the streets. She was a girl, someone else wanted to be hidden. And now, she was in my city, exposed and vulnerable. I wouldn’t ignore it. I couldn’t. “Lorenzo, come in,” I said sharply. He appeared moments later. I slid the folder across the desk. “Explain this.” “That’s all we could find,” he said quietly. Someone is keeping her hidden. Pulling strings.” Even with the best team in the city, she wasn’t easy to track. Someone didn’t want her past known. And whoever it was, had the resources to erase it. But why? And who? The girl in the white dress had stepped into my life without warning.I would uncover the truth and would protect her. And I would make whoever tries to erase her existence pay if the person is a threat to her.
