Shying my stare, maman turns away. We have never spoken about my father before – she has never raised the subject and I haven't asked. Even when I was a kid, still I didn't ask. But I believed that he was with us, present in some other dimension yet busy and that is why we didn't see him. Now, I know that it was just a trick of my mind, trying to protect me from the truth.
Silent, maman comes up to the window. I sit down on the bed and stare into space. I don't know why I have blurted out to her that I've never seen my father. I guess I was furious and wanted to hurt her. But I know that if she had something worth telling me about him she would have done it already.
