TWELVE

Maeve Thompson I was doing my paperwork when I stumbled upon these files that I thought I had already sent out but they were here still. I opened them, I wonder why they haven’t been sent out. I picked the phone up, “Gemma could you come in here please,” I stated. Shortly, Gemma was in my office, “how may I assist you?” She asked. I closed the file, “I thought you sent this to Verna and associates, they expected this a few days ago. Why is it still on my desk?” I asked as I handed her the file. She looked through it, “this file still needs to Mr. Gray’s signature but he didn’t sign it. I guess it got mixed up with other files.” She explained. I sighed, “why don’t you,” I paused, “never mind I’ll take it to him myself.” I said standing up. I walked to Artemis’ office but he wasn’t there, I walked back out, “Brianna where is Mr. Gray?” I asked his assistant. “He hasn’t come in yet.” She replied. I looked at my watch, “but it’s almost ten.” I commented. “He is the boss, so he gets to come in whatever time he wants.” Brianna stated. I sighed as I walked back to my office and called him. He picked up after the fourth ring, “hello?” He answered in a groggy voice. “You can’t serious still be asleep.” I stated. “What time is it?” He asked. “It’s ten. When will you be coming to the office?” I inquired. “What?!” He barked. “What part of the sentence was difficult for you to understand?” I asked now feeling annoyed that we might lose the Verna account. “It can’t be ten. I slept through the entire morning.” He said as I heard shuffling over the phone. “You need to come to the office…” I started. “You’re leaving?” I heard a lady ask on the other end of the phone, I’m guessing that was his girlfriend. “I’ll be in the office in an hour.” He said then he hung up. I scoffed as I heard the dial tone, “this can’t wait for an hour!” I screamed at the phone. How did this happen? How does such an important file not make it to where it was supposed to be? This seemed like the first client I would have brought to the company but I guess no one wanted me to succeed. I sighed as I went back to my work, this was all Artemis fault so he is the one who is going to fix it. Artemis Gray I woke up to my phone ringing on my bedside, I felt around until I found then I answered it without opening my eyes. I had a lot to drink last night, the encounter with Candy was exciting to say the least. “Hello,” I answered in a groggy voice. “You can’t serious still be asleep.” Maeve’s voice came to the other end of the line. A smile came to my face when I could see her even with my eyes closed and her being so far. Looks like someone missed me, I thought. I opened my eyes and sat up, I looked around but I wasn’t at my apartment, I looked to my side and there laying naked was Candy. s**t! I cursed, I can’t believe I spent the night at this place, I thought. “What time is it?” I asked. “It’s ten. When will you be coming to the office?” She inquired and I could sense a slight annoyance in her voice. “What?!” I barked as I quickly stood up but immediately regretted that decision when the room started to move. “What part of the sentence was difficult for you to understand?” She asked no longer trying to mask how annoyed she was. What I didn’t know was whether she was annoyed with me or with someone else. “It can’t be ten. I slept through the entire morning.” I said as I tried to find my clothes all around the room. I’m guessing my moving woke up Candy, she rubbed her eyes and looked at me, “You’re leaving?” She asked. “You need to come to the office…” Maeve started when she paused. I was guessing she heard Candy’s voice. “I’ll be in the office in an hour.” I stated then quickly hung up. I didn’t want Maeve hearing whatever Candy was planning on saying next. I didn’t want her to have that picture of me in her head, I messed up having s*x with Candy but I don’t think anyone should know. “I do have to leave.” I said as I continued to put my clothes on. She moved up to me, “you really have a lot of pent up s****l energy for Maeve, don’t you?” She asked as she helped me adjust my tie. I reached in my pants pocket, I handed her eight hundred dollars, “thank you for the fun night.” I stated then I walked out. “Look for me again sometime. I’ll always be your Maeve whenever you want me to.” She said as I was walking away. As much as I wanted to pretend that other ladies were Maeve, I knew that it would never compare to the real thing. I wanted Maeve and not having her was starting to go to my head. I called Carson, “why would you leave me at the strip club?” I asked immediately he answered. I could hear him yawn, “I didn’t leave you because I also never left, look ahead.” He said and there he was at the entrance of the club. I walked up to him, he looked at me and smirked, “look like someone had some fun last night.” He commented. “We won’t be speaking of it.” I said sternly, “now let’s get out of here, we both have work to do.” I walked past him and to the car, the driver, who was still there opened the car for us. I was having the worst hangover ever; I could really use some aspirin. Now that I thought back to last night I only was wondering of one thing; was the night I spent with Candy worth it? Maeve Thompson I was explaining something to Gemma when I saw Artemis casually walking into his office. I looked at the time, it was almost noon. So much for being here in an hour, I scoffed. “Give me one minute.” I said to Gemma as I went to Artemis office. I also casually walked in, “it’s been two hours.” I stated. “Good morning to you too.” He said casually as he took a seat. “It’s afternoon i***t. Also why are you trying to sabotage me?” I asked. He rested his head on his hands, “you have to tell me more than that.” He said. I dropped the file on his table, “all you had to do was sign this. This would have been the first client I would have signed to this company but I guess you didn’t think that was important.” He picked the file and went through it, “they earn a profit that is three times their capital?” He asked shocked. “Yes, they are a small start-up that is booming, now that they didn’t get their paperwork they probably think I’m not interested and they went on to find somewhere else to invest.” I complained. “Did you do all the necessary research?” He asked. “Of course I did. I’m good at what I do.” I said feeling a little offended that he asked me that. “This is a very good investment to the company.” He commented as he continued to look at the file. “That’s why I wanted to sign them but it looks like that chance has passed.” I said in defeat. He looked at me, “how long ago were you to send these files?” “About four days ago.” I replied. He picked his pen and signed it, “I wouldn’t sabotage you Maeve.” He said as he handed me the file, “how about you personally deliver the files, I’ll give them a call and explain that today’s mix up was my fault.” I sighed, “I guess I could give it a try.” I took the file and left. I went to the firm that was located in this old run down building, it was presentable though. I remember her telling me that she wanted to preserve the natural environment just the way she found it. I walked up to her assistant, “Hi Ruth, is she in?” I asked. She smiled, “she is but she is meeting with someone else. A business man of some sort.” She replied. I knew it, she is seeking somewhere else to invest. “I’m sorry but I will have to interrupt the meeting.” I apologized to Ruth as I walked into Ms. Amanda Powell’s office. She was almost forty but refused to get married, she said she wasn’t going to conform to societal norms of how a woman should live her life. “Ms. Thompson, I am kind of in the middle of something.” He pointed to the man who was seated on the chair opposite her. “I know you are looking for other investment options and that’s why I’m here.” I said. “I didn’t think you were interested after I didn’t hear from you in almost four days.” Amanda said. “I know, that’s completely my fault. There was a mix up at the office and there was a delay in signing the papers. That’s why I thought I might as well deliver them myself.” I explained. The man cleared his throat, “I don’t believe we have met, Roman Jameson.” He introduced himself. “Maeve Thompson. And I think you should be on your way as I have got this.” I said then I turned my eyes back to Amanda. I heard him chuckle, “I will be on my way because I just signed her to be in investor in my company.” He stated with a smile revealing his pearly white teeth. I looked at Amanda, who nodded in agreement, “ No problem. I guess I lost that one.” I said as I walked out of the office. I said goodbye to Gemma then walked to my company-issued car. This was all Artemis’ fault, I thought as I unlocked my car. “Ms. Thompson!” I heard someone yell my name. It was Roman. “You came to gloat?” I asked him. He smiled, “not something I would do, but I would like to see you again. How about we grab a coffee tomorrow?” He offered. “I’ll think about it.” I said as I got into the car. He knocked on the window and handed me his card, “now you can reach me after you decide.” He offered me a smile and walked away.
