Chapter ElevenI did a few hours of work in the afternoon and then headed for the Town Tavern. The restaurant was located on the outskirts of Garland on a quiet road that connected the town to the neighboring Delano. A wide center hall divided the dining room and lounge and led to the restrooms and the owner’s office. The restaurant was through an entrance to the left. On the right was the lounge, a room with tables and banquettes set under soft lighting. The bar was at the rear of the lounge. A few of the tables in the lounge were occupied; I spotted my friend Will Vonderlin and a man seated at one of the tables. Will noticed me too and nodded.
