Chapter Twenty-FourI attended the five o’clock vigil Mass, went home to change my clothes and pick up Yogi, and headed to my parents’ house. Dinner was a party of three. Mom, Dad, and I sat on the deck and discussed the latest events while the grill warmed. I was living a Yogi Berra witticism: déjà vu all over again. “How was dinner with Will?” Mom wanted to know if the evening had been a social success. Dad wanted to know how my detective work had gone. “Did you gather any intelligence on Brooke? Are any of her coworkers headed for a police lineup?” “Possibly the bartender.” “Darn.
