RYAN'S POV
“We've arranged a mate for you, Ryan”, my mum told me as I walked into the office.
“What do you mean arranged?”
We chose to step in since we saw that you hadn't received a mate and that it was far later than you should have.
“Who said I don't have a mate?”
I watched the shock on her face grow into a grin and then a broad smile.
She turned to my dad, the Alpha, in excitement.
“Isn't that good news honey?”
“Indeed it is.”
“We should probably turn down the offer from the neighboring pack, our heir is now mated,” “who is it, son?” I knew the joy on his face would collapse soon.
I hesitated, but then summoned the courage from within. The worst they could do is shout and rant.
“It's Megan, dad.”
“Who is Megan?” My mum asked.
“I hope it's not the Megan I know?” My dad added.
“Yes she is, and we were both mated a few days ago.”
“And you didn't tell us about this earlier?”
“I knew you guys would react this way, but I expected you both to be more open-minded.” I said with determination, not expecting something nice from them in particular.
“You must be joking to think we'd let you have that Omega as a mate” my mum countered.
“What do you think would become of our pack?”
“The great Alpha of Creset, mated to an Omega, don't you think of how drastic it would affect us? She has no divine powers, nothing to boost the growth of this pack, and you come here claiming her like she's the most powerful being”. My dad added. He was a traditional werewolf and believed solely in the traditions of the werewolves, nothing more, nothing less.
“She has something that's worth more than these powers you keep going on about.”
“Megan has a good heart,”
“Good heart my foot, a good heart won't raise this economy, a good heart will make us look weak to our allies. Your arranged mate, a Luna, will be the perfect solution to the case on ground.”
“But I love Megan.”
“Sacrifices have to be made. Ryan, a leader, an aspiring one, has to learn the art of sacrificing for his pack.
“Or else what?” That was the worst thing that could escape my lips.
“Or else, his father sends him out to be finished by rogues if he keeps on arguing about this matter.”
There was a minute's silence in the room and my father finally spoke.
“It's for the good of the pack, do what needs to be done” he said finally, holding my mum's hands. They left me in the room. His words echoed in my ears and my mind made a poem of his last words.
At that point, I realized the worst they could do wasn't just rant, but disown their own son and send him to a rogue. I really downgraded the ability of what they could do.
**********
“Your highness, your attention is needed in the study” my cohort informed me.
I was sitting in my office, reminiscing about a lot of things. One of them was Megan.
The night of the full moon, when I broke her heart and said the terrible things I said.
I never got the chance to apologize and tell her why I did what I did.
Who would let sacrifice come in the way of love?
Telling her it was faked was the greatest mistake I ever made.
Living with myself now would be harder than I ever thought it would be.
“What for?”
“It wasn't said, your highness, but I believe it's urgent,”
“Tell them I'll be there”
“Yes, your highness”
I heard his footsteps retreat down the hall. I waited for a few moments before standing to go to study.
My parents were always the antagonist in my story.
I wonder what they've cooked up now.
Ruining my life wasn't enough for them, I am more miserable than a pauper at this point.
“You called for me”
I walked into the study and I didn't just see my parents there. I saw a young lady standing close to my mum and the smile on my mum's face illuminated.
“Mum, Dad”
“I'm glad you could join us, it's been two years now and we thought we should do something about you being sober” My mum started talking.
“Wow, didn't realize you cared so much” I retorted sarcastically.
“This is Priscilla, Luna of the neighboring Pack,”
“Your highness” I watched as she curtsied, it was a perfect curtsey, but not perfect enough to send thoughts of Megan away.
I only gave her a small bow and turned to my parents.
“What's this about?” Though I understood where all of this was going, I needed them to realize how ridiculous it would sound if they said it themselves.
“She's your arranged mate, the one we told you about,” I didn’t know why I was irked by the joy I saw on her face.
I guess it didn't sound stupid to them after all.
