The morning air clung to me, thin and cold, as I stepped out, leaving Clara behind in the dim glow of the chamber. Her scent and touch lingered on me–warmth and comfort I didn't deserve. I had told her to stay and not follow me. Not because I doubted her courage, but some roads weren't meant for her feet. Not yet.
My nightmares had returned, a bit clearer this time. It tore through me until I awoke, throat dry and trembling hands. Clara had seen me broken. I hated that. And yet, when she whispered “You are safe. With me.”, something inside me cracked open.
That was why I was heading to the priestess. I needed answers, guidance. Anything that will silence the voices of the dead and the screams of the past. And to also find out my parent's murderers and why they were killed.
