Chad Harrington stumbled down the concrete path, his head bowed, his vision blurred by hot, relentless tears. He didn't see the students parting around him. He didn't hear the chatter of the quad. The only sound in his head was his mother's hysterical sobbing echoing through the cell phone. They're taking the house. They took the Aspen house. The lawyers dropped us. He felt completely hollowed out. A dizzying, nauseating panic gripped his stomach. He had no money. He had no friends.
