The front doors exploded inward with a violent crash that shook the entire mansion.
I screamed as broken wood scattered across the marble floor while three massive wolves stormed inside through the rain. Their growls echoed through the room, low and dangerous, making fear rush violently through my chest.
Everything happened too fast.
Logan partially shifted instantly beside the entrance, claws extending from his hands while Damien stepped directly in front of me without hesitation. The movement was automatic, protective, like shielding me had already become instinct for him.
The first wolf lunged toward us.
Damien caught it before it could even touch him.
The force of the impact shook the room as he slammed the wolf hard against the floor. The sound alone was terrifying. Rage radiated off him so strongly that even the other wolves hesitated for a second.
I stumbled backward toward the staircase, my heart pounding uncontrollably while thunder crashed outside the mansion. Another wolf attacked Logan immediately, snarling viciously as both of them crashed into a table, sending glass everywhere.
The third wolf noticed me standing alone near the stairs.
Its glowing eyes locked directly onto me.
Fear froze me instantly.
For one horrible second, I couldn’t move.
The wolf growled low in its throat before charging straight toward me.
“Ava!” Logan shouted.
Before the wolf could reach me, Damien moved.
Fast.
Terrifyingly fast.
One second he stood several feet away, and the next he was directly in front of me. He grabbed the attacking wolf violently midair before slamming it hard against the marble floor with enough force to crack the surface beneath it.
The room fell silent for a second.
Even the wolves looked nervous now.
Because Damien no longer looked human.
His silver eyes glowed brightly under the dim lights while pure Alpha dominance filled the entire mansion. The air itself felt heavier around him, almost impossible to breathe through.
And suddenly I understood why people feared Damien Blackwood.
Not because he was cruel.
Not because he was powerful.
But because when Damien was angry, he became absolutely terrifying.
The wolf beneath him whimpered painfully while trying to escape, but Damien grabbed it again before it could move.
“You came into my territory,” he growled coldly, “and threatened what’s mine.”
My breath caught instantly.
What’s mine.
The words echoed loudly inside my head while heat rushed unexpectedly through my chest despite the chaos around us.
Logan heard it too.
The fury that crossed his face afterward was almost as frightening as Damien himself.
“You don’t get to say that,” Logan snapped angrily after throwing the other wolf across the room.
Damien slowly looked toward him, silver eyes still glowing dangerously. “Then control your pack.”
“They are not following my orders anymore!”
“Then maybe you were never truly Alpha.”
The tension between them exploded instantly again.
Even now.
Even during an attack.
I pressed a trembling hand against my stomach while panic slowly consumed me again. Everything was spiraling further out of control. The wolves. The fighting. The constant fear surrounding my baby.
I didn’t even notice the pain at first.
It started small.
Sharp.
Low in my stomach.
I sucked in a quiet breath while gripping the staircase railing harder.
No.
Please no.
Another painful cramp twisted through me suddenly, stronger this time.
Fear immediately flooded my chest.
Not now.
Damien noticed my expression instantly.
His entire face changed the second he looked at me.
“Ava?”
The wolf beneath him was forgotten immediately as he moved toward me quickly.
Another sharp pain hit, making me gasp softly.
“It hurts,” I whispered shakily.
Panic flashed openly across Logan’s face as he rushed toward me too.
“What happened?”
I shook my head helplessly while trying to steady my breathing. “I don’t know.”
But deep down…
I did know.
Stress.
Fear.
The attacks.
Everything was affecting the baby again.
Damien reached me first, placing both hands carefully against my arms while searching my face with obvious panic hidden beneath his calm expression.
“Look at me,” he ordered softly.
I tried focusing on him while another cramp twisted painfully through my stomach.
The pain was worse this time.
Much worse.
Fear consumed me instantly.
“No,” I whispered weakly. “No, no, no…”
Logan cursed sharply under his breath before turning toward Ethan and Victor, who had just returned after handling the wolves near the east side of the mansion.
“Get the healer. Now.”
Ethan immediately disappeared upstairs while Victor moved toward the entrance to deal with the remaining wolves outside.
The room suddenly felt too loud.
Too bright.
Too terrifying.
I grabbed Damien’s shirt tightly as another wave of pain hit me.
His arm immediately wrapped around my waist to steady me.
“You’re okay,” he said quietly, though his voice sounded strained now. “Stay with me.”
“I can’t lose this baby.”
The fear in my own voice nearly broke me.
Something painful flashed across Damien’s expression after hearing those words.
“You won’t.”
But this time, he didn’t sound fully certain.
And that terrified me more than anything else.
Logan moved closer, his face pale with panic. “Ava, breathe slowly.”
Tears filled my eyes instantly.
Everything hurt.
My body.
My heart.
My mind.
I was so tired.
So unbelievably tired.
Another cramp hit suddenly, harder than before, and this time I cried out loudly.
Immediately Damien pulled me closer against him while Logan looked seconds away from completely losing control.
Then suddenly…
I felt something warm run down my leg.
The entire room froze.
Fear stopped my breathing instantly.
No.
No no no.
Damien looked down immediately before his expression darkened with panic.
Logan’s face went completely white.
“What is it?” I whispered shakily, already terrified of the answer.
Neither of them spoke.
That silence destroyed me instantly.
Tears spilled down my cheeks before I could stop them.
“No,” I whispered weakly. “Please…”
Damien grabbed my face gently, forcing me to look directly at him.
“Listen to me carefully,” he said firmly. “You are not falling apart tonight.”
But fear had already completely consumed me.
Because deep down…
I knew something was wrong.
Very wrong.
The healer rushed downstairs seconds later carrying herbs and medical supplies, but the moment she saw the blood running slowly down my leg…
Her expression changed instantly.
And somehow…
That terrified me even more than the pain itself.
