The Alpha Blood Secret
My entire body went cold.
“The child you’re carrying…” Jessica paused, her face unusually pale. “Isn’t normal.”
Silence filled the room instantly.
I stared at her without blinking properly, trying to understand what she meant.
“What are you talking about?” My voice sounded weak even to me.
Jessica looked nervous. Actually nervous.
And somehow that terrified me more than anything else tonight.
Damien stepped slightly closer to me immediately.
“Explain yourself.”
Jessica swallowed hard before glancing around the mansion like she was afraid someone else might hear her.
“This isn’t something we should discuss outside.”
Damien’s expression darkened instantly.
“You have ten seconds.”
The threat in his voice was impossible to miss.
Jessica looked irritated by his tone, but surprisingly, she didn’t argue.
Instead, her eyes shifted back toward me.
“There’s something Logan hid from you for years.”
Pain twisted sharply through my chest again.
Of course there was.
At this point, secrets seemed to follow Logan everywhere.
I folded my arms tightly.
“Just say it.”
Jessica hesitated.
And that hesitation made my anxiety worse.
Finally, she exhaled slowly.
“Logan’s bloodline carries Alpha mutations.”
The room became silent again.
I frowned in confusion.
“What does that even mean?”
Damien’s jaw tightened instantly.
Interesting.
Because unlike me…
He understood exactly what she meant.
I looked toward him quickly.
“Damien?”
His eyes remained on Jessica.
“Keep talking.”
Jessica nodded slowly.
“Every few generations, the Black River bloodline produces wolves stronger than normal Alphas. Faster healing. Stronger instincts. More dangerous wolves.”
A chill crawled slowly down my spine.
“And?”
Jessica looked directly at my stomach.
“If the child inherits it… things could become unstable.”
My breathing stopped for half a second.
“What kind of unstable?”
Nobody answered immediately.
Which was honestly the worst possible response.
Then Damien finally spoke quietly.
“Powerful wolf mutations can affect pregnancy.”
Fear exploded inside my chest instantly.
I stepped backward slightly.
“Are you saying something is wrong with my baby?”
Jessica shook her head quickly.
“No. Not wrong. Just…” She hesitated carefully. “Different.”
Different.
God.
I hated that word.
I wrapped my arms protectively around myself while trying to calm the panic rising inside me.
“This is insane.”
“It’s true,” Jessica said quietly.
“How do you even know this?”
Her expression changed slightly.
Because suddenly she looked uncomfortable.
Caught.
And Damien noticed immediately.
“How,” he repeated coldly, “do you know this?”
Jessica avoided his eyes.
My stomach twisted instantly.
Then realization hit me.
“You knew before I did.”
Jessica stayed silent.
That silence told me everything.
Anger exploded inside me immediately.
“You knew I was pregnant?”
“It wasn’t supposed to happen like this—”
“Oh my God.” I laughed bitterly while backing away from her. “Everybody knew except me.”
Jessica looked frustrated now.
“I was trying to help you.”
“By sleeping with my boyfriend?”
The words hit hard.
Jessica flinched slightly.
Good.
For the first time all night, she actually looked guilty.
“It wasn’t serious between us,” she admitted quietly.
That confession hurt more than I expected.
Not serious.
Three years together.
And he risked everything for something “not serious.”
Humiliating.
Damien suddenly stepped forward again, drawing attention back to him instantly.
“Why are you really here?”
Jessica’s expression tightened.
Because clearly…
There was more.
“I overheard something tonight,” she admitted softly.
Every instinct inside me suddenly screamed danger.
“What kind of something?”
Jessica looked directly at Damien before answering.
“Some elders inside Black River Pack don’t want the baby born.”
The world stopped.
Completely.
“What?”
My voice barely came out above a whisper.
Jessica looked shaken now.
“They think the child could become dangerous if the mutation appears again.”
Fear slammed violently into my chest.
“No.”
My hands instinctively moved protectively over my stomach.
No.
Nobody was touching my baby.
Nobody.
Damien’s entire expression became lethal.
“Who said this?”
Jessica hesitated.
Then finally—
“Logan’s father.”
Rage exploded across Damien’s face instantly.
A terrifying silence filled the room.
Because suddenly this situation became much worse than betrayal.
Much worse than cheating.
This involved my child.
And judging by Damien’s expression…
Someone had just made a very dangerous mistake.
