A full week went by before I had a chance to reach out to Briella. Mack got the flu and I was covering his shifts, plus working my own, and barely made it home every night after working doubles. Saturday was my first day off in a week.
I sent Briella a quick text asking how she was, but she didn’t answer.
On Sunday, I tried again. Asking what she was up to and if she wanted to get together. Silence once more.
Day three and more crickets came when I asked how her weekend was.
