The Alliance

It was a crazy night in Zunchin’s pack; everyone was holed up in their homes, afraid to go outdoors, and gunshot echoes could be heard across the forest. It was the Miguel pack, and they were returning to attack them. There were three main werewolf packs in Oaxaca. The Youchong pack, which is regarded as the strongest in terms of money, talented fighters, and land area, rules the South. No outsider made it across their area. The Miguel pack, who held the second position of power and were reasonably numerous, lived in the North. They were Oaxaca’s main cause of unrest. They have been making a sincere effort to overthrow the lowest-ranked Zunchin’s pack in the East, so they may confront the Youchongs. The Zunchin wolf pack started to become anxious about the constant encroachment on their territory. They were aware that they needed to move quickly to safeguard their territory before disaster hit. All that resulted from the Miguel pack’s conquest was lifelong servitude. The only thing left to do was form alliances with the Youchong pack, as the Miguels would be permanently driven from their area by their help. The report of the elders, which inquired about an alliance with the Youchong werewolves, was not very encouraging. In return for protecting their area, Jamal, the Alpha of the Youchongs, has asked for Chareen, the only daughter of Zunchin’s pack, Alpha Bayad. He said, “I want your Alpha’s daughter. If I can have her to mate, I will inform the Miguels of our alliance and dispatch special troops to patrol your borders and make sure there is no intruder activity. Bring the lady, if my condition suits you“. The room was filled with sadness as Bayard buried his face in sorrow. He had to act quickly to avoid another Miguel assault. “Why, my Chareen, of all that we have to give?” he wondered. Everyone in the pack was aware of how much he loved and cared about Chareen. He responded, “I consent, Chareenwill go,” in a shaky voice that made it clear that he was feeling unsure and hurt. The pack’s survival was in jeopardy because he had already lost his partner and a few warriors to Miguel’s onslaught, and he was unwilling to lose anymore. He gestured for Mark, his Beta, to call his daughter. Chareen had just returned from seeing her lover Manue. She sat in the courtyard, giggling at something Manue had said when Mark, her father’s Beta, called to her attention, “You are needed in the assembly room”. Her senses were alerted to anything amiss by the tone of his words. Wondering what might need her attendance, she gave a little wave to her companion and followed Mark. Her father and the council of elders handled most major matters, while sometimes the assembly chamber was utilized for common pack gatherings. An explosion of emotions struck her as she pulled the door open. Wonder, anxiety, excitement… Feeling moody easily, she was perplexed by the peculiar concoction. She swept the room with her gaze. The elders seemed happy and enthusiastic. Her Dad gave her a quick look, let out a sigh, and put an end to their discussion. With an angry expression on his face, he strode up to her. I see that you have resumed jogging, Chareen. She peered into a nearby mirror and saw herself. Her face was dewy from the sun, and her long brown hair added to the disheveled appearance of her bedraggled complexion. She rubbed off the dirt that had been stuck on her nose. She turned to look at her father again and smiled sheepishly, trying to talk him out of his bad attitude. “Too nice of a day to spend inside”. “Haven’t I told you that being outside by yourself when transformed into a wolf is dangerous, hunting season has arrived, and despite signs put on our land, people don’t usually respect them”, her father responded. “I was with Manue Dad. We avoided going anywhere close to the property’s edge". Chareen smiled. “Oh, Manue.” Her father groaned once more, then scowled. “Chareen, there’s something I need to tell you. We’ve been in a state of chaos and unrest in recent times due to Miguel’s attack, as you may know. Our pack is the smallest in the city and our only chance of survival is forming an alliance with the Youchong pack in the South. “Okay?” She questioned the purpose of her summons. She never cared about the politics of wolves. Her father continued, Jamal, Alpha of the Youchong’s, had demanded something in exchange for his support and as a seal of the alliance. His condition is that we give you to him for a mate. “Me?” Chareen was so taken aback that she lost control of her emotions and, for unknown reasons, started to shake. “Indeed, you”, her Father reassured her. The Elders have decided that a new alliance led by the new Alpha must be formed. Jamal is prepared. You will mate with him, and our packs will coexist peacefully forever while being free from Miguel’s assault. Mate? With me? Chareen was aware that her jaw was agape in astonishment. Her gaze quickly scanned the room, and she saw the Elders blandly looking at her. She turned to face her dad. “But, Manue, but…” “Yeah, I know you’ve had your eye on him, but this is what the pack needs. In order to defend against the dangers posed by Miguel’s, we need solid partnerships. Furthermore, allied packs expand our roving radius and provide access across areas. He paused his speech, looked at her, and put his hand on her shoulder. “Don’t worry; I understand that this comes as a surprise. Jamal is a decent guy. You’ll have a great friend in him. Suddenly, her mouth became dry, and she felt her hands tighten at her sides. “But that’s an outdated perspective! Coalitions are no longer necessary. We could find other ways to move beyond pack conflicts, and the majority of people are aware of the danger posed by the Miguel’s. We just need to be more sensitive and arm ourselves. She started throwing forth ideas and facts in a desperate attempt to refute the decree that had just been given to her. Chareen knew her father didn’t like having to explain this to her, but he maintained an even tone. Packs live in harmony with one another because of their long-standing alliance history. Our familial connections bind us together and guarantee territorial respect. Like many of her pack, he came from the old tradition and was used to unquestioned loyalty. She had been given more leeway and had been expected to do less than the other members of the family since she was very young and being the only daughter. She could now hear the silent lecture: if she had been more interested in what was going on and more aware of pack politics, she would already be aware of these things. He went on talking. The danger posed by Miguel’s remains unacceptable. It's the awareness that they’re greater than us in strength and land space that makes them keep attempting to invade our domains. We must band together and refuse to allow them to besiege us, take our assets and turn us into slaves. Chareen was about to object once again, but a fierce glance from her father made her lock her lips and not say anything. Protesting was pointless. The Elders had made their choice, as the Alpha had wanted. Being a rebel against the pack’s rules would get you kicked out. Chareen has been a member of a pack her whole life. It was inconceivable to imagine living alone, but it was also disgusting to consider mating with a complete stranger. “When?” She got one word out correctly. “This evening, in the next five hours. Waiting is not worth it. Jamal is ready to receive you. The others in the group are preparing supper for your farewell party. The ritual will take place as the moon rises.
