Asher.
I flopped down in the plush leather cushions of my office chair and blew out a pond deep breath. Anna had just quit and there was nothing i could really do to stop her. She really wanted to get the promotion and she deserved it, but my grandfather and the board wanted me to ran the company. They didn't want an outsider.
I ran an angry hand through my close cropped, jet black hair, disheveling it into wild spikes. Anna leaving was really having an effect on me, mostly because i had not anticipated that. I love being in control of things and this was clearly out of my control and it was messing with my head.
I remember when Jerry retired, my grandfather had promised Anna the promotion, she was the most hardworking employee in our company. I knew eventually i was going to run the company but i figured i had a couple of Years on my end to learn the ropes. So it had come as shock to me as well when grandfather announced my name as the new CEO instead of Anna.
Shortly after Anna had stormed out of the conference room furious, and i immediately pulled grandpa aside for an explanation.
"Grandpa, i thought Anna was good for the job what happened in there? Why did you name me?" i asked trying not to sound irritated. I knew taking on such a big role in the company will require me to change my ways and spend most of my days at the company, which am guessing was my grandfather's plot to get me to stop partying every night.
Grandpa shrugged his shoulders and the lines in his face deepened, he was getting old, the age was catching up with him. He atleast appeared to be remorseful about his choice.
“I wanted to promote Anna son, but the board disapproved, they were really uncomfortable with someone outside the family in that position. Plus am getting old the sooner you start learning the better. Don't you think? I am not going to be here forever Asher. "
" I know grandpa, i just feel really sorry for Anna. She wanted this."
My father died when i was eight years old in a car accident, and my mother abandoned me at birth. My grandfather literally raised me i owed him everything. And seeing the old age catching up made me feel less angry about his choice. He needed to see that i have grown into the young man he raised me to be responsible, and what best way to show him that than by running this company.
I leaned back in my chair still thinking as i stared out, my eyes vacant. As much as me being the CEO felt right, Anna didn't deserve this. She had devoted her whole career to this company and now she was jobless. It makes sense that she quit.
I glanced down at the card in my hand. Twisting it between my fingers. It had her number, she had told me if i had any questions i should call her.
A small grin flashed my face as i thought of maybe asking her out for dinner on Friday night, i mean that was all i had been wanting to really ask her anway. Since the very first time i laid my eyes on her.
I remember the very first time we met, it was like yesterday really, she was wearing a black pencil skirt with a white blouse paired up with red bottoms. The skirt hugged her figure down to her knees and emphasized on her voluptuous round a*s. The white blouse complemented the warm tones of her rich caramel complexion. Her hair was pulled up into a ponytail and she was wearing glasses.
She had shaken my hand with some authority and gave me a warm but not too subtle smile showcasing her dimples. Since then no matter what i did, she never really looked my way twice, which to me was a challenge.
No matter how hard i tried to invite her for lunch she always declined and always remained polite about it.
I stared at the ten digits of her number, there was no way i was going to ask her out she would definitely just say no as always. I was getting frustrated by the minute when Leo, my best friend walked in.
"Yo, ready to head out?" Leo asked from the door as he walked to the other side of the office and made himself comfortable.
"I don't really feel like going out tonight bro." i said trying to figure out a reason to call Anna.
Leo shoots me a look like am crazy, "What's bothering you bro?" he asks his voice concerned.
" This Anna girl, she is driving me nuts. I can't quite figure her out."
"You like her, don't you?" Leo asks sitting up straight with a huge grin on his face. "I never thought i will see the day."
"Don't get ahead of yourself, i just need to figure her out, something about her bro i can't quite put a finger on it."
"Just ask her out then and that way you can ask her whatever you want to know."
"She would never say yes, especially after i took her job." i say almost giving up with frustration.
"I have an idea and you're not going to like it." Leo says getting up with that naughty squint in his eyes. "Has she already left?" he asks.
"Yeah, she left me everything and told me to call her if i have any questions."
"I heard she was working on the big client we are signing next month, did she leave the files for that?" Leo asks excitedly.
"Yeah in her office. I believe so. What's the plan." i ask curious.
"Just hear me out, she knows how important that account is to the company and considering she just lost her dream job, what if we get rid of the account and then accuse her of sabotaging it. It will make sense given the events of the day. You can threaten her with some jail time, getting investigated or " he says now smiling like a big baby, " you can give her an alternative to help you out one on one on that account until it's ready. That way you get to be alone with her and figure whatever you want to figure about her out."
" That's a master piece Leo." i say wondering why i didn't think of this.
I immediately got up from my chair and headed to Anna's office with Leo.
I curled my lips into a smile. Crazy idea or not. I was fresh out of options.
Thank God for my best friend Leo. We met back in Harvard, and we have been friends since. When i came back with him, my grandfather gave him a job as the head of HR.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Leo asks pulling me out of my thoughts.
"Lets do it bro!" i say with a huge smirk on my face.
