The Divorce is Postponed

Lucas took the phone, got out of bed, and walked to the window. They talked for a few minutes. Nancy couldn’t hear what he was saying, but she saw his brows furrow and relax alternately. After hanging up, Lucas walked back. Nancy looked at him apologetically: "I answered the wrong call. Did Miss Fiona misunderstand?" "I’ve already explained." He paused, then looked at Nancy: "We’re husband and wife. Sleeping in the same bed and waking up together is normal." "Mm," Nancy nodded. Just as she was about to get up, Lucas suddenly leaned closer to her face: "What’s wrong with your face?" Nancy quickly ran to the mirror and looked. Sure enough, her face was covered in red bumps, as were her legs, arms, and body. She knew it was the result of her egg allergy from yesterday. "It’s just an allergy. I’ve taken medicine. It’ll go away in a few days," Nancy said. "Are you sure it’s nothing serious?" Lucas asked. "Yes, don’t worry. It won’t delay seeing Grandpa." "Wait a bit. I’ll finish getting ready, and then we’ll go see Grandpa to bring up the divorce." She knew he was eager for her to bring up the divorce. Since there was no room for negotiation, she wouldn’t play the pitiful woman, begging for his sympathy and pity. That wasn’t her style. Her pride wouldn’t allow it. "No need to go to Grandpa. Let’s go to the hospital and check your face," Lucas said. Nancy was stunned: "Has Grandpa already agreed?" Lucas shook his head. Then he explained: "I was just about to tell you. Grandpa’s health isn’t great. He’s moved his 80th birthday celebration up to next week." "Grandpa has always doted on you. If we bring up the divorce now, he won’t be able to enjoy his birthday. Let’s wait until after the celebration." "Okay," Nancy nodded. "Grandpa is the one in the Lu family who’s always cared for me the most. I want him to have a happy 80th birthday." "From the way you’re talking, it sounds like you’re accusing me of not treating you well?" Lucas teased. Nancy: "..." After her mother passed away, it was Grandpa who brought her into the Lu family, giving her a warm and happy home. It was also Grandpa who took care of her and supported her education. Without Grandpa, she couldn’t imagine what her life would have been like these past few years. "Don’t worry. Once Grandpa’s birthday is over, I’ll bring up the divorce. I won’t delay you." Afraid he might think she was using Grandpa’s birthday to stall, Nancy quickly assured him. "You seem very eager to divorce, even more than I am?" "What? Are you that desperate to see your old flame?" Lucas rubbed his temples, feeling inexplicably irritated. After breakfast, Nancy couldn’t resist Lucas and was taken to the hospital. In the doctor’s office, Nancy sat on the stool while Lucas stood beside her. She was nervous. She hadn’t expected Lucas to accompany her here. "Do you know what you’re allergic to?" "Yes." "If you knew, why did you eat so much and make it this severe? It’s only making you suffer. Have you taken any medicine?" Nancy shook her head, feeling embarrassed: "No." "I’ll prescribe some medicine. Take it at home and see how it works. If it doesn’t help, come back for an injection." Nancy’s hand rested on her stomach. She was hesitant, worried that the oral medication might affect the baby. But with Lucas standing beside her, she couldn’t ask. Just as she was getting anxious, Lucas’s phone rang, and he stepped out to take the call. Nancy immediately relaxed and turned to the doctor: "Doctor, I’m pregnant. Can I take these medicines?" "Why didn’t you tell me earlier? I’ll switch you to topical medication. No oral drugs." "Thank you, Doctor. I appreciate it!" After leaving the doctor’s office, Lucas’s expression changed. The warmth from earlier was gone, replaced by coldness. He held it in until they reached the pharmacy window, where he finally couldn’t contain himself: "You’ve learned to lie now, haven’t you?" Nancy knew he was referring to her lying about having taken medicine. She quickly lowered her head, feeling embarrassed: "I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to." "So you did it on purpose." Nancy: "..." His ability to twist words was impressive. "I thought since we’re about to divorce, after we part ways, we’ll go our separate paths. There’s no need to trouble you anymore. These past two years, I’ve already caused you enough trouble." "So you admit you’re a burden?" Lucas said irritably. Nancy’s ears turned red, her heart aching. See, he really did think she was a burden, a nuisance. But the next moment, Lucas’s voice softened. "You’ve been a burden for two years. What’s one more time?" When Lucas was reading the instructions for the medication, he suddenly spoke up: "I remember the doctor said it was oral medication. Why did it change to topical?" Nancy: "..." Being too attentive and sharp-eyed wasn’t always a good thing. "Topical medication is fine too!" Nancy said. "Your allergy is severe. Topical medication works too slowly. Oral medication is more effective. Besides, Grandpa’s 80th birthday is coming up. If those red bumps don’t disappear by then, he’ll think I’ve been mistreating you." "I’ll explain it to Grandpa, and it won’t take that long to heal," Nancy assured him. But Lucas insisted. "No, I’m switching it back to oral medication. I don’t want you coming back for injections if it doesn’t work." With that, he headed back to the doctor’s office to have the prescription changed. Nancy sighed and quickly called out to him: "Lucas, wait. I asked the doctor to switch to topical medication. My stomach hasn’t been feeling well lately, and oral medication isn’t suitable for people with stomach issues." "Topical medication might be slower, but it’s safer, right?" This reason finally convinced Lucas. He stopped in his tracks. In the car, Nancy applied the medication to her face, legs, and arms. But she couldn’t reach the back of her neck. Just as she was struggling, Lucas spoke up: "Are you sure you don’t want to ask for my help?" He was always like that, seeming to know everything, always in control. "Here, you do it," Nancy handed him the medication. Lucas suddenly frowned: "Is that all? No begging?" Nancy bit her lip and decided to go all out. Fluttering her lashes, she cooed in a soft, sweet voice: "Hubby, please help me. I can’t reach it. Please do it for me!"
