The towering building of Grey & Carter Law Offices loomed ahead of me.The building was huge, its sleek titanium panels reflecting the light like something out of a movie. It looked expensive, the kind of place where important people made important decisions. As I stepped through the large revolving doors, a rush of cool, conditioned air greeted me. I felt a little out of place. Inside, the lobby was even more breathtaking. The floors were smooth marble, polished so well that I could see my reflection. Large chandeliers hung from the ceiling, casting a warm glow over everything. The air smelled fresh, like a mix of expensive perfume and leather. There were big, comfortable-looking chairs in the waiting area, where few people sat quietly either reading or typing away on their phones. Floor-to-ceiling windows let in plenty of natural light, giving a clear view of the city outside. At the center of the lobby was a curved reception desk made of glass and dark wood. Behind it sat a woman with flawless makeup and a perfectly pressed blue blazer. She looked up with a polite but professional smile. “Good morning. How can I help you?” I adjusted my bag on my shoulder. “I have a meeting with Mr. Norman Grey.” Her expression didn’t change, but there was something in her eyes, curiosity, maybe. “Your name, please?” “Brianna Hale.” She nodded and typed something on her computer before picking up the phone. After a quick conversation, she hung up and looked at me again. “You may go up now. His office is the last on the top floor.” I murmured a quick thanks and made my way to the elevator, stepping inside as the doors slid open. The ride up was smooth and silent, the only sound being the faint ding as I reached my destination. When the doors opened, I found myself in a long hallway with dark wooden floors. The atmosphere here was quieter and a bit more serious. At the end of the hallway, a set of heavy double doors stood with a gold nameplate that read: Norman Grey – Executive CEO. I pushed the door open. The office was empty. And absolutely stunning. It was massive, with one entire wall made of glass, giving a breathtaking view of the city skyline. Sunlight poured in, illuminating the whole room. A large mahogany desk sat in the center of the room, perfectly organized with a sleek black chair behind it. Across from the desk were two matching leather chairs, their deep brown color adding to the sophisticated feel of the office. To the left, a tall bookshelf stretched from floor to ceiling, filled with thick books, framed awards and a few personal items. The walls were decorated with modern artwork, abstract but elegant, adding a touch of personality without being too much. A beige leather couch sat near the window with a small glass coffee table in front of it. Everything in the room screamed wealth. I let my eyes take in every detail. With a sigh, I leaned back against the door, waiting for Norman. And then the door suddenly swung open behind me. I gasped as I lost my balance, stumbling backward—straight into someone’s arms. Strong hands caught me, steadying me before I could completely fall. My heart pounded as I grabbed onto the man’s arms, trying to regain my footing. “Whoa,” a deep, amused voice said. “You okay?” I looked up and my breath caught. The man holding me was incredibly handsome. Tall, with dark, slightly tousled hair and sharp well-defined features. His eyes—a striking shade of blue—were filled with laughter and his lips curved into a small knowing smile. He wore a perfectly tailored suit but there was something effortless about the way he carried himself like he was both confident and carefree at the same time. I quickly stepped away, my face cheeks flushing. “I—I’m fine. Sorry about that.” He smiled. “No problem. It’s not every day a beautiful woman falls into my arms.” Before I could say anything, another voice cut through. “Is there a reason you’re flirting with my guest?” I turned sharply. Norman stood in the doorway, his gaze shifting between me and the man. The playful glint in the stranger’s eyes didn’t fade. Instead, he chuckled. “Relax, brother. Just being polite.” Brother? My eyes widened as realization sank in. This was Norman Grey’s brother. And I had just fallen into his arms. For a moment, Norman looked annoyed but it was gone in an instant. Adrian however, looked completely unbothered. His blue eyes sparkled as he turned his attention back to me. “I’m Adrian, by the way, since my dear brother here seems to have forgotten his manners.” I hesitated for a second before offering a small smile. “Brianna. Nice to meet you.” “Brianna,” Adrian repeated, as if testing the name on his tongue. Norman interrupted sharply. “Are you done?” Adrian laughed and grabbed a thick folder from the desk. “Relax, I’m not here to steal your guest. I just came to get this.” He held up the file before tucking it under his arm. Then glancing back at me, he added with a playful wink, “And you know, to make a dramatic entrance. Gotta keep things interesting.” I couldn’t help but let out a small laugh. Norman just rolled his eyes. “Goodbye, Adrian.” Adrian shot him a mock salute before heading for the door. “See you around Brianna.” And with that he was gone. The room was noticeably quieter without him. I glanced at Norman. “That was your brother?” “Half-brother.” He said. There was something in the way he said it, calm but distant, like it was a distinction that mattered. I filed that information away for later. Norman gestured toward the leather chair across from his desk. “Sit.” I did, crossing my legs as he moved behind his desk. “So,” I said, looking at him. “Why did you invite me here?” “I want to offer you a job,” he said simply. I blinked. “A job?” He nodded. “As a token of appreciation for saving my life.” I frowned slightly. “You think I need a job?” Norman looked up at me. “I saw the pile of unpaid bills on your table before I left.” My stomach turned. So he had seen those. I slowly took a deep breath, trying not to let my embarrassment show. “And what exactly is this job?” “You’ll be my assistant.” I stared at him. “You want me to be your assistant?” “Yes.” I let out a short incredulous laugh. “Norman, I don’t have any experience as a legal assistant.” “You don’t need experience,” he said smoothly. “You’ll learn.” I opened my mouth to argue but before I could, he added, “And the salary is enough to cover all those bills you have piled up.” That shut me up. I stared at him. This was unexpected. Completely unexpected. I don’t know what I was expecting but definitely not this. And yet, the real question wasn’t whether I was qualified. The real question was why me? And before I could ask, Norman leaned forward, his eyes looking directly into mine. “So, Brianna. Do you accept my offer?”
