By now, it’s second nature for me to ride on Wolf Dex’s back. When the ground is flat, I can sit straight-backed and enjoy the view of Wulfhelm’s hefty oaks. The branches arch overhead. Wide green leaves shift with every breeze. Plus, Wulfhelm forest is home to more than shifters. Crimson cap brownies burrow around the dead leaves and tree roots, their tiny mushroom hats bobbing about the forest floor. Every so often, lady naiads step out from a tree trunk. They wear white cobweb gowns that shimmer against the rough bark of their skin. Far overhead, orchid fairies fly in intricate patterns that remind me of pink ribbons that wind through the clouds. The view is so lovely, I soon forget any trouble with mirrors and prophecies. The air fills with the scent of dried leaves and melting choco
